you are BLINDED! by your obviously annoying love for PSU. no one is challeninging the successs of the the program over the last few years...its is clear the Rose uses what is available to him very effectively, but to insuate that Fawcett, Scott, Dorton are 6 rotation all around players for their team rather than left side terminators is laughable. Both Dorton and Scott were SUBBED OUT in the backrow, and Fawcett was hidden for much of her career in serve recieve. She was used in the back for her lethal jump serving and pipe hitting, NOT for her passing and digging. Anyone that doesn't know that is kidding themselves. There is a reason why Fawcett pretty much is passed over on the national team, she brings nothing to the table other than hitting. You know nothing about Russ Rose's philosophy on defense if you think that he'd leave Nic back there if she actually couldn't make plays. Again, she's certainly not the best passer or defender, but she did both on the best team in the history of the sport. Her serve and pipe attacking were obviously very useful weapons, but you don't think that having a front row of Blair Brown, Christa Harmotto, Megan Hodge, and Arielle Wilson WOULDN'T have been able to get the job done without them?! Give me a break... She's definitely not next in line for libero, but she is NOT as bad as you're making her out to be. Nic made HUGE strides as a passer and defender from 2006-2008. So huge that Russ allowed her to play all six rotations full-time in her senior season. Russ isn't an idiot... If she was THAT much of a liability, she wouldn't have been back there. Russ' outlook on defense supports that. He doesn't give up floor defense for offense. It's so stupid that a negative comment about Penn State was even posted by USAVolley16 on a Minnesota thread... #unnecessary #drama #getalife it isn't about "liability"...but there is a difference between being recognized as a 6 rotation all around player (Megan Hodge) and terminator (Fawcett). YOU are confusing the two. No, Fawcett, for the college game, was not bad enough in the backrow (especially playing in a pretty weak Big 10 during her junior/senior years) to warrant subbing out, but her ROLE on the team was not a 6 rotation all purpose player, it was a 1-2 combo attack with Hodge when crap hit the fan for PSU (which was rarely). And don't bring any middle attack into this meaningless squabble...Glass UNDERSET her middle for much of her career.... she rarely set the middle on anything but a 3 pass, and usually never in transition (case in point, Hodge and Fawcett accounted for OVER half of all the kills for PSU in 2008...apparently "the greatest team ever". Fawcett was no slouch in the backrow, but her role back there was not to pass and defened (just look at her service touches for 2008- 114 touches, compared with fellow TRUE 6 rotation all around player Hodge- 676). The proof is in the numbers. case closed. lets give this thead back to Minnesota.

"glass underset her middles for most of her Career" as they hit over .400 collectively, imagine what they would have done if she set them well also, loved "playing in a pretty weak Big 10" you're funny. I do agree with you completely as to why Fawcett was in the back row, but these two statements are ridiculous.

Yes, Keystone knows this...underset means number of attempts given NOT the ratio of kills to attempts. He's just showing his *ss for no particular reason.....le sigh, the off season.

Sure, compared to pretty much every other conference, it was "strong", but please don't confuse the Big 10 of the past couple seasons to the Big 10 3-4 years ago, No comparison.

The proof is in the numbers. case closed. I'm not saying that she was left in because of her excellent passing and defensive skills. She was obviously there because of her vocal leadership, attitude, backrow offense, and because SHE COULD PASS AND PLAY DEFENSE. I'm just saying that the girl wasn't as bad at passing/defending as some people here are making her out to be. Sure, she didn't pass as many balls as Hodge, but she can only pass what's served to her! Everyone picked on Hodge. Everyone. Fawcett was a decent passer and defender and did her job on her team. If she was as bad as some people are saying, Russ wouldn't have let her play through the back row. She played all six rotations because of her vocal leadership, attitude, backrow offense, and because she could pass and play defense. She was no Gabi Ailes back there, but she was good enough to not be a detriment to her team for those three rotations.

She had to be good enough in the backrow to not be a liability on defense and passing when RR leaves her in to hit backrow.

Curious how he could be in talks when he just accepted the Texas ass't position. The word was he was offered the interim head at MN until Hugh arrived. Taking the Texas job seemed to indicate that this was no longer an option, hence Hugh apparently looking to hire friend of his as one assistant and Laura Bush as interim head.

I think the meaning was that Sullivan WAS in talks with Minnesota - past tense, before taking Texas job - not IS in talks with Minnesota.
Hugh will be the coach, the only remaining question is who will be there until after Olympics.

I don't get that. Scott would like the job and I don't know why he wasn't asked to be the interim. I know he would bring a passion to the position. Unless he was and declined after being passed over the first time. Also, he could be looking for a more stable position than that of an interim.

As is almost always the case in these instances, no one really knows the answer to this except Scott (and anyone he chooses to tell). However for whatever reasons, I heard that he was never really in the picture, in terms of getting the HC position.
