i heard Salima was uninterested in being a head coach, much like Denise Corlett. Maybe, I don't exactly know what Salima is thinking. But what I know is that Salima is very family oriented. She proposed her schedule when she was working for RR. The reason being is that she hated getting to the office early and getting home late at night at 11:00 and missing her family time. So he allowed her to get to work late instead of early and it worked for both sides. Being a head coach, I don't know how she is going to not work like any other head coach schedule and be successful. Lima isnt going anywhere. Loves it at UT and makes a salary that would put her in the top 20 of head coaches.

Columbus has twice the population of Minneapolis. In addition, OSU has 65% more students, and the Buckeye football team draws 3-4X the fans. There is a lot of snow in Minneapolis. Hebert left Illinois because the athletic director/women's athletics director wanted to give big money to bring in Theresa Grentz (who had a NC) for basketball instead of rewarding the volleyball program. While Minnesota has a couple very solid club programs with plenty of northern European height bloodlines, I don't see a new coach keeping up with Hambly and Rose on the national recruiting scene. I believe it's imperative the Gophers land an excellent game and training coach who can get the most out of what will be competitive- but not superior- talent. I don't know where you get your information, because OSU does NOT have 65% more students than the U of M. UMN has 65,000 students vs. 62,000 at OSU. This is from the US Dept. of Education. This may include all students (including graduate students) - but your #'s are way off... I'm just saying And, MN was 5th in the country in average attendance vs. OSU at #35. MN had nearly 54,000 attendees over 18 dates (ave. 2,991) while OSU had a little over 14,000 over 13 (ave. 1,096).

For what it's worth, Wikipedia says that OSU's main campus has 56,000 students and Minn's has 52,000 (both numbers rounded off by me). These numbers rank 3 and 4, respectively, among universities nationwide.
One thing I haven't heard mention of is the financial support the AD gives volleyball at the two schools. I don't know if one school or the other is markedly more generous in that regard. I have heard that Texas and tOSU are the top two athletic departments in the country in revenues. So tOSU probably could make more money available. Whether it does or not, I don't know.
A major factor, I would think, for any coach considering a move is whether he'd make more money at the new school. For many, that would be far and away the most important factor. We all have to eat, after all.

Sure, but *where* you eat is probably a bigger factor.
But I kid about Columbus. After all, it's only an hour and a half from paradise. Can't be all bad.

And, while we're at it, Columbus is also the armpit of Ohio. As an Athens-born expert, I feel free to offer that fact. Good to know... All this time, I thought it was Cleveland. Youngstown...and if someone disagrees...they've never been.

Minny's website also has them at just under 52K...the larger number posted earlier is the total enrollment across all of their campuses (5 of them). The larger number for OSU most likely includes all of their campuses also (I believe 6 total)

...despite what some of the Gopher fans have led us to believe, volleyball is a big deal in Minneapolis. I am hoping to lead people to believe, to know, that volleyball is a big deal in Minneapolis and MN!
