Talked to Karch for a while at regionals, I asked some of my players if they wanted to meet him, they didnt know who he was. After (R)uffda!'s question I got to thinking I'd ask my DD's team mates - I'm sure that all will know Kerri Walsh and Misty May, but I'd be surprised if even 2 out of 10 know who KK is, and that might be as a commentator for some of the matches they watched last fall. For what it is worth, my daugther is in HS and has been following the MN coaching situation. She asked yesterday about the latest news and rumors. She knew exactly who KK is. She even commented on how he notices ball control and defense (based on his commentary during the final four) and she liked that about him.

Do you really want to recruit a kid who doesn't know who Karch is? Seems like a good test right there. Talked to Karch for a while at regionals, I asked some of my players if they wanted to meet him, they didnt know who he was. I told him and he laughed. Kids are different these days, and so is the mystique of national team. When I was playing college, I could tell you every member and alternate of the NT, men and women. Im in volleyball for a living, and couldnt tell you more than 4-5 players on our mens team. Kids have a zillion places their energy goes, and most of it texting. So it was a KKKK meeting?

I'd be even more impressed if kids remembered the original KK from UCLA.

Kirk Kilgour - also a KK announcer, very intense player. Punched a wall at Nationals one year after a loss. Out for rest of tournament. RIP

You'd still have less Ks than Sandy Koufax in a 9 inning game.

I would caution those of you that think Karch would automatically be a great head coach because he was a great player. There is no question he is a great assistant for the national team and might very well become a great coach. However, history in many team sports suggest that all time great players are usually very poor head coaches for various reasons.

I have seen him interact at the convention the last couple of years and he is pretty studious about learning the nuts and bolts of technique and teaching. Being as great of a player as he is, he could have just blown off a lot of the technical coaching pedagogy and traded on his past accomplishments, but he isn't. I think he will make a pretty terrific coach soon, but I don't think the time is now.

What about previous Gopher assistants who went on to head coaching positions? Your thoughts please?
PS. I would not be surprised if Love, Tabberson and Filho transfers. (I thought they might prior to Mike's resignation)

Does anyone have any idea of what CJ's interest in Minnesota is?
Where would Love be looking to go?
