Neville and Sturm didn't light the world on fire.

judging by cold-uncoaching like timeouts I've seen of Hugh, I wonder if he'll change his approach now that he'll be coaching far less talented teenagers and 20 year olds.

If I do have one hesitation about how Hugh will do, it will be how does he handle college players. 18-22 year old women are a different breed than what he has been used to working with. At a recent coaching clinic he made the comment that he doesn't feel that female athletes are different, pyschologically, than male athletes. And shouldn't be treated as such. While this may work at the NT level, I don't know how it will work at the collegiate level.

Why do people keep saying this? He was an assistant coach at BYU before his time with the National team. Everyone calm down... He's going to be fine. The guy's pretty smart, in case you haven't noticed...

So poor Laura.. Shes just an interim. She's got the best recruiting class from a year ago. A legend made it to the final 4. If she wins..she wont get credit..It was Mike's team.. If she loses ..she wont get blamed..she took a no win job. I am so far ahead of the sheep on this..I really dont care what you think about me..think outside the narrow box..and look at How Joel arrived at this decision. He can have less than stellar results and say..wait till next year.. The sheep term was used to convey ..that those that follow..( like sheep ) might be satisfied with that wait till next year cope out..while those who want and demand greatness generally will not accept it. This just gave the AD a cushion..and to that end that is my beef.. not with you..Laura or Hugh.. I do not see this cushion working like SC..since this is NOT Southern California..Nor is it the National team.. so ..since I am so dumb I will stay away from here...and just be like everyone else who wont post because they are attacked personally with no moderation.. I get the warnings..( for being stupid..) thank you for allowing me to take up your valuable time. No wonder R ..and others LEFT. Posters with 8 post get to rag on me. Uh, you infer that anyone who likes this decision is a sheep (which is not a compliment, you understand), and then go all "Oh woe is me" when people object?

Talk in the past has been Mary Wise being the first women to coach a national champion. Maybe it will be Laura who gains that honor!!

I the ugopher's point was that he hadn't coached college women before.

So does anyone think that there will be some Hugh's Hecklers shirts in 2012? or does that stop with Mike?

But it could be an adjustment.

But it could be an adjustment. Could be... but I think it'll be more seamless than we all think. The physics are still the same. The basic principles and fundamentals are still the same. It's still volleyball. If there was to be an issue with transitioning, I would think that it would be after 2008 from the US Men to the US Women. I don't think this particular change will be difficult at all, considering his experience, knowledge, and success.

I feel it is a great hire. Let's agree to agree!

are people really complaining about this hire??? Hugh is the BEST hire Minnesota could have dreamed of. Count on a National Championship in the next 5 years.
