"However, acquiring the coach who led the U.S. men's team to the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing despite grieving the murder of his father-in-law was too alluring for Minnesota to bypass." Yuck! What a poor sentence.

There will be two assistants at Minnesota to help Laura - assuming Hugh waits until after Lonfon to join the team.
In either contingency, the coaching staff has already been determined. Formal announcement has to wait until final decisionof Hugh's tiiming.

Formal announcement has to wait until final decisionof Hugh's tiiming. In the video on the Gophersports website Laura says she will stay as an assistant coach when Hugh arrives at Minnesota. Did I interpret that correctly? If so, one of the interim assistant positions would be temporary?

Formal announcement has to wait until final decisionof Hugh's tiiming. I would think that Hugh's timing would be dependent upon how the WNT does at the Olympics. A staff would need to be in place well before that date would be known. In Laura's interview I thought she mentioned that one asst was already in place but they were holding off on the announcement until a second asst was decided upon.

I was told the both assistants know who they are. But it depends on when hugh decides to go to the U. So we all have to wait until he knows or decides. im so interested as a few others were mentioning above!! Does anyone know more about who they are?

I have heard mentioned that one of them is from southern california. very well liked by players and a good fit for the program. this coach has great rapport with girls but also good technical trainer.

The most puzzling is the fact Laura wanting to get out of college coaching, now in thick of it, in a big way. Talk about reversing fields.

The most puzzling is the fact Laura wanting to get out of college coaching, now in thick of it, in a big way. Talk about reversing fields. $$$ Or maybe just to throw us all off the scent. The prospect of working with Hugh is a once in a lifetime chance and that would change my mind. Or the hassle of finding a job and moving was such a hassle, and so on. So many factors to consider, and of course I'm not Laura so I'm sure there are some I didn't even think of. Good luck to her and Minnesota.

Good luck to her and Minnesota. I wish her the best as well, she is a super person. She has been fairly clear about her heart not being in it, evidently this opportunity changed that. I hope so, because there are plenty of coaches in that league who are very good, have their hearts completely into it, and are having a hard time winning matches. That league will eat you alive if you dont have both oars in the water, and are not invested in it 24-7.

All that has been said here is basically correct.
One assistant knows he has a job regardless of when Hugh comes to Minnesota. The other assistant is waiting for a final determination so she knows whether or not to start packing.
The only varible in all of this is the timing of Hugh's arrival.

Ugh, spoken like a true administrator! "We just hired the Mike Krzyzewski of volleyball," Maturi said. "If he needs to fill out his commitment through the Olympics, it's OK. This is a long-term commitment. I'm not worried about the next 18 months." www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/115815129.html

From the Jobs thread, it seems this female asst. has turned down other offers. Would she do that if she didn't know she was coming here? I think it is done and just waiting to see for how long, as one of the 3 will have to make way when Hugh arrives.
