Does it matter to anyone that this hasnt been confirmed? It wouldn't have gotten this far if it weren't true. They are probably waiting to release a statement until they have a replacement. Oh, sure it could. I do know one of his assistants said yesterday that Hugh hasnt made a decision.

If your info is from one of his assistants, then your source is a lot closer than mine....assuming he is not just saing that to buy time.

I refuse to believe this is true until I see an official press release (call it denial). Hugh is an incredibly nice guy and one of the best coaches ever. I understand the family thing, but I really hope he can fulfill his commitment to the NT. I think they will do great things in London with him at the helm. Whoever said he wasn't a major influence with the men's team is a joke. He WAS the MAJOR reason that USA volleyball gained respect in Bejing. Technically as well as tactically, he managed the team really well. Even though he was not at pool play matches, he was still involved. I hope he stays for 2 more years, then he can win as many national championships at Minn that he wants.

It may be true that someone said it - and maybe they were even wearing a USAV t-shirt so someone threw it off as a staff member. Entire reputations are earned and destroyed based on gossip in this business, so yes, a thread of people sitting around speculating on things they know nothing about and passing it off as truth could easily fill 20 pages on this topic.

It will come down to many factors. Rest assured money is a big one!

Not counting the jobs thread what is the longest thread of 2011 so far? No even close. The "And the next Minnesota coach is..." thread is currently at 83 pages and has 1,237 replies. Yowza!

If you are referring to Hugh McCutcheon, he has already taken the job at Minnesota. What's in question is when he will START the job at Minnesota.

What's in question is when he will START the job at Minnesota. Hugh hails from Christchurch, NZ. Does anyone know if he still has family/friends there? Earthquake devastation is still being assessed.

Assistants at Minnesota have not been told he is coming now. They are operating as if Laura is HC.

While I dont profess to know the official status, he is listed on the UM website as current head coach, and I do know he is recruiting. I think its funny that he is listed as the current head coach of the US women, and the current head coach of the UM Gophers. Evidently this guy is really good.
