There going to hire Karch as head coach. That would be cool. He should wear a pink hat on the sidelines when he coaches. I didnt say they should, I said their going too. IMO he is way too inexperienced to take this on right now.

Bleh, it's coaching, not biophysics. Karch is a smart enough guy. I dunno how he is as far as managing an entire staff, but he can figure it out. You're only as good as your athletes and assistant coaches anyway.

I agree with you that he would figure it out, but he has to figure it out immediately, with a team that has a chance to win, but also has young players. Karch has been coaching less than 5 years and never as a head coach. Even with his talents and experience, that is one helluva leap. Time will tell, but Id want someone with more coaching experience.

Karch actually coach his sons volleyball team as a head coach at st. margarets they made it to the CIF finals Technically, he wasn't the head coach. The other dude was, as least on paper. Funny though, once warmups started Karch was basically the man, and who knows where the other dude dissapeared to. There's a little bit of difference between coaching CIF Division 5 AA boys' volleyball, and the National Team. I know that's hard to believe, but it's true.

Just posted on another thread that inability to get along with the USAV Staff might have been a factor in Hugh's decision. Is it possible the USAV got fed up with Hugh’s waffling and questioned his commitment to the NT over the next 18 months? One might ask whether Hugh would be 100% committed to the NT when he has to be thinking about recruits for Minnesota. You can't be thinking about two jobs at the same time. Just my speculation. It certainly couldve, if not shouldve been the reason. In the past month what percentage of energy, thought has gone into USA volleyball vs Gopher Volleyball. He is cashing a paycheck from USA, not Minnesota. I have zero problem with him taking the Minnesota job if thats what he wants. I have nothing but praise for the job he did with the men, and the job he currently was doing with the women. He cant control the timing of when the Minnesota job came open. He couldve handled it better.

We dont have a team with a chance to win? Here are the current world rankings, and no team has more potential to improve over the next 18 months than we do. www.fivb.org/en/volleyball/Rankings/VB_Ranking_W_2011-01.asp

Karch not having the experience doesnt mean he cant do a great job, just means he isnt qualified by virtue of experience. If they pick him ( I believe they will) its a a very big display of faith, given the stakes. This could be an incredible 6 years for the US women.

Honestly, as an American, I'm disappointed. As an American AND a Minnesota Alum, I am thrilled.
