Grun on the other hand has always been the "killing machine" but her passing is not where it's supposed to be for an OH at that level (she spent most of her career as OPP). I watched her at the last ECH where she played as an OH for GER and her reception was so-so (even though people say it has improved a lot since she spent time playing beach vball). Grun wins the best receiver in ECH2011. She's listed 11th in the world cup but she received 303 times, only fewer than Zhang from China. I would argue that she can be the primary passer on the top level.

Probably Ze Roberto just wants to get Tom out of shape so brazil has a better chance to beat USA next year. I don't know, but Solokova didn't play well recently and still gets the nod over Logan. I am thinking the same thing. Maybe Ze Roberto wants Tom to be out of shape so that Brazil will have a chance to beat the US in the next Olympics. Somehow I don't think Ze Roberto's ultimate goal is to sideline Tom to be out of shape for the Olympic year. ;D Unfortunately, there is no Italian club that could offer Tom that kind of money. When Tom returned to Italy a couple of years ago, she accepted under half of what she was making in Russia/Japan to be in Italy. Any amount an Italian team could offer would almost certainly be a lot less than what Tom is getting in Fenerbahce.

Kristy Jaeckel and Kelly Murphy both signed with the Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico.

After the win vs Rabita, a local said that they approached Logan Tom to say they want to see her play more and that they are getting mad at Ze Roberto about it, to which Logan replied (translated) "Please don't worry about it. It's not a problem." Thanks for the additional info. I'm not surprised with Tom's response. She isn't the type to complain about her team/coach nor encourage it from fans. Her answer makes me think that she is comfortable knowing what she can do or she doesn't mind the extra rest... or maybe both. However, what does concern me is that the Turkish League matches have foreign player restrictions which makes the prospects of her playing in those matches even less. What's weird is that Tom has played more in Turkish League than in Champions League and I was expecting that it would be the other way around.

GS Caltex (Korea) ended the contract with Becky Perry. Not sure where she's going to go. Harmotto and Barboza have lucked out, however. Their setter for Modena, Fernandinha, is leaving, but apparently they're gonna get Ognjenovic instead! Regarding Becky; is her release a reflection of a lack of productivity or more a result of them being in last place and feeling they had to do something so they blame the import? Either way, she'll land on her feet. Very special young lady.

Hodge has actually been a reasonably good passer. In her two CEV matches I watched, Hodge passed at 12% and 15% excellent. Your definition of 'reasonably good' must be awfully low. Maybe you have access to other matches of hers with Sopot that I don't have access to? Polish league has livestream of some matches. I was able to catch a couple of Hodge's matches in Poland, the latest one being last night. She's a similar receiver in the Polish League, averaging 20% excellent in reception. If you consider errors, she is at 16% efficiency. Suffice to say, reception is the biggest thing holding back Atom this early season. It's a surprise to no one and was predicted by many when Atom announced their market decisions last summer.

Amanda Dowdy from Texas Tech University will play in Germany for Alemannia Aachen. She comes to replace Angelina GrĂ¼n who transfered to Dinamo Moscow for the rest of the season, so she has big shoes to fill...

Impressed with Busto so far undefeated. Lloyd has been the starting setter for the team.
Is there any chance Lloyd could be on that 2012 Olympic Team?

I don't want to put limits on what players can achieve internationally, especially for talents such as Lloyd. I think though, that barring injury to Berg/Glass, Lloyd won't be in London. It will be very difficult to break in a new setter in 2 months and (again, unless there is injury) I don't see the need to.

Same thing with Spicer. She's very talented -- just too bad USA has a lot of good setters. If Spicer or Lloyd were half-Brazilians, LOL!

It is a bit of a shame (for the setters) that there are so many top notch setters in the US.

It is a bit of a shame (for the setters) that there are so many top notch setters in the US. This is a good problem to have. But I'd trade a setter or two for one good LS hitter. Can we have Osmokrovic please? Or perhaps one of the Brazillian hitters.

Natalia is out again (another surgery to her leg). That leaves Jaqueline or Garay. Sassa will be more of a DS. But nope, I'm not trading Spicer or Lloyd for anyone less than an in-form Sheila Castro.

USA may have some depth at setter position. But seriously, save Berg, no one would be the starter on the top 8 teams in the world.
I think people are just too optimistic.

Spicer's #3 on the depth chart but not even starting on he club team, so we're not _that_ deep. I'm also not sure that Glass has really improved at all over the past two years - maybe she'll make the jump to elite world setter, but she's not even in the conversation yet. Lloyd does exciting things and is playing well. Hopefully she'll keep growing.
