Just so you know...Santa Barbara (4-16 in the MPSF) also beat BYU...which just goes to show that a good team can have a bad night. Penn State has a cake walk to the final 4 EVERY year, and with the exception of 1 time, have blown it. If big wins against Mercyhert, Sacred Heart, and Saint Francis make you feel like Penn State is the team to beat... more power to you.
And just so you know...Santa Barbara (4-16) and San Diego (1-19) also took games off of Hawaii in a losing effort...unfortunately, you have to win 3 for it to count. Long Beach is currently clawing for a playoff spot...
...don't be that guy/toad that tries to say that the EIVA is a tough conference with a straight face...
Playing with teams is not the same as BEATING teams...anyone can play down the the level of the opposition.

I'm not saying that the EIVA is a good division. I'll be the first in line to say its ridiculously bad. I'm saying you can't say Penn St is a mediocre team cause they come from a bad division. They still have shown that they are a good team and can compete with anyone. My point is that Penn St is far from being mediocre and is a lot better than most MPSF teams give them credit for. I'm sure BYU will tell you Penn St is good.

It's not just their conference...
...they've beat BYU once...whoopty doo...
They lost to other dead average teams...like Lewis and Long Beach state who are NOT in their conference and went 5 with USC... You've said yourselves that the EIVA is not impressive...but whenever they travel out of the EIVA, they get worked!
...which would put them at mediocre themselves...

I wouldnt say they get worked. Their best player wasnt playing vs. LB. Take Rooney off of Pepp for a match and see how they do. And Lewis was back in what, the first week of Feb, which was the very first match their freshman setter started. They are cruising now. Definitely above mediocracy.

you can't judge a team by its conference. hawaii women's team in the final four - anybody? Do you mean the wahines for this upcoming season? If so, if they can get their setter up to par really quickly then they should have a decent chance. They played against USC I think a little more than a month ago and were beaten in 3. I was hoping that they would put up more of a fight, but until their setter gets adjusted to the collegiate level, I am not sure if they will be of final four caliber. Also, they play in the WAC which is an extremely weak conference. So the setters might be able to run a decent-great offense against mediocre teams, but when they play more experienced teams like Stanford or USC in the post-seasons they may not have the necessary knowledge of how to set the stage at an even higher level. I just really hope that Hawaii will win it this upcoming season. They are going to lose Lily and Kim after this year. I think they are going to lose Lauren too. That is THREE All-Americans gone after this year. It is now or never.

Actually, USC beat the Wahines in 4 games with the Wahines not winning one game during the match. It was agreed that they would play 4 games regardless how much games one team won.
By the way, Wahinevball.net has been posting pictures of the match. A new one everyday.

Yes. I do agree that there should be more than just 4 teams tournament. At least 16. There are some good teams out there that should get a chance, but they dont. As to all the people who are saying that MIVA and EIVA are not good, I say you have no idea what you are talking about. Look at last years Final Four. Ball State almost beat Pepperdine. Some of you will say "Yeah they came close but they DIDN"T". They were as good as Waves were, but Pepperdine had more luck. And so what if teams are not in top 15. That doest mean anything. If Penn State or Ball State wins Final Four this year, I bet they will not finish as #1 in the final pool. Why? Because those west coaches dont even acknowledge teams from other conferences. maybe they should. For the good of USA volleyball if nothing else. But that is another story. I read every response but I havent seen Ball State as anyones pick. Somebody said good teams give you good pool position, but great players win you championship. I might eat my own words but I believe in those Cardinals. They have 5 seniors who played in last years Final Four and they cant wait to get back. They played Hawaii and they looked great. After that they didnt show much, but in crunch time they will rise like Felix from dust, Zuidema and Jary will provide great passing so Schunzel can set his outstanding middles, lead by Denmark one of the best in the country. Hall will have digs of his life, and Weindel will have his night. They will fly over those Waves and straight for the Rainbow. Yeah so they are Wariors now, but whatever (Just look at that greek guy, weird walk huh?) anways, I believe that they will play their hearts out and sing "Going back to Cali" while singing "We are the champions" and "Walk as an Egyptian" no matter how silly it looks on their way back, because RA is on their side. You guys have a nice one...and to all of you who say that MIVA sucks...i think you said it toooooooo soooon...have a good one... cao cao
