All in all, i think the coverage has been decent. Friday night they started with a fantastic retrospective on the women's gymnastics team at the 1996 Atlanta olympics, and they stuck with the complete men's debacle against Russia in volleyball (Saturday). Tennis was live early this morning on the West Coast as was the US basketball game. NBC is showing much more events live on the weekend than during the week.
To those on this board that only see volleyball through their rose colored glasses, be thankful for the coverage we are getting. It is more than I recall seeing in the past. Finally, interesting article I read that the majority of viewers in prime time already know the results and don't care that they already know who won--they just love watching the olympics.

That "fantastic retrospect" was from 16 years ago!!!! It preempted the 2012 women's indoor volleyball match. Let's keep the focus on this Olympics and the athletes currently competing.

I enjoyed the piece on the '96 gymnastic team, although it could have been shorter. The real reason for it, however, was that there was no gymnastics competition that night. I could have done without yet ANOTHER Phelps piece. The whole Phelps/Lochte thing has been wrung to death.
My complaint is not about the amount of prime time that volleyball is or is not getting (since I'm home during the day, I'd rather none of it was in prime time), but that NBC, after creating an artificial scarcity model, is simply failing to cover the Games during those times fans are most likely to be watching. In the first hour of their coverage, they covered about 3/4's of a set of volleyball, and nothing else. And mind you, a lot of people can't stay up until midnight, so wasting most of an hour of coverage at the start does matter. Milking the audience comes first, while covering the Games comes...

Russia men's indoor match was scheduled to air at 11:30AM when I went to bed at 3AM. I woke up at 10:15AM to a text from a friend telling me how great the match was. They can at least not change the schedule last minute. We'll see what happens with tomorrow's USA women's match.

I thought it was being shown live, but if was delayed for west coast viewers it didn't take a whole lot of effort to ignore your texts if didn't want to know the results. As for going to bed at 3 am, you must be a lot younger than me.

Because NBC Universal has a relationship with Youtube/Comcast Xfinity, I can watch every event, live or recorded, at any time, in high def, with the ability to stop, restart, and rewind. Indefinitely. It has allowed me to watch whatever I want, whenever.
The prime time crap is structured purely for Madison Avenue. It's pure "entertainment." I can watch, or not, but since the drama is sometimes interesting and I can get my fill of real time sport, I'm good with that. Not sure how it could be any better.

The quarterfinals, I believe, are being moved to NBC Sports or MSNBC.

Let's hope it's not NBC Sports. I have yet to figure out how one gets that channel.

No, I see it on DirecTV (603), but I don't know what sort of subscription you need to get it. I have the Sports Package and that's not it.
Telemundo isn't carried at all, as far as I can tell.

Telemundo isn't carried at all, as far as I can tell. i just did a search of the packages for you, my friend. nbc sports network begins to show up on the "choice xtra" package. look for "NBCS" in directv documentation. the only caveat is that you & i have different zip codes. but that shouldn't affect something like this...
