People are writing Hawaii off because Croson is no longer on the team and Texas is the defending champs. First match out of the gates at the SSC, I like Hawaii's chances. So it isn't really about the actual level and players on the teams on the whole, but rather that it's the first week of the season and it's played on Hawaii's home floor. Hmmmm...if only that same logic could be applied in other years when it comes to selection sunday Not many teams play their first match at the end of the season.

... Dave (w/ Kawika & Po'okela), BiK/ Luis', Miss L. Anthony Tuiasosopo-Gabriel, ay, 'geddylee'/'slickshoes510', R. Butler, (R)uffda!, 'Bob'/Gantt's A 2, Rich Kern --- Btw, who do people believe will show up for Na Wahine vs. Da Alumnae? Perhaps the beter Q: would be who do folks want to return (to the SSC) for this particular match?? It's been only a couple of years, but Cheri Boyer only won MVP at USAV Nationals in Masters,40+..she was/is always a favorite of mine.

After battling through ankle problems, UH's Emily Hartong has been cleared to play with "no restrictions," coach Dave Shoji said. It's a date!By ANN MILLER UH solidifies its schedule for the 2013 season: hawaiiathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=wvball&"Hawaii's home volleyball schedule is finally set in "cement," according to coach Dave Shoji." We'll be watching on 8-30 (vs. Texas), 9-1 (vs. San Diego), 9-7 (vs. UCLA), 9-21 (vs. Wichita State), 9-25 (vs. JP's Team Toyota), 10-4 (vs. Long Beach State), 10-18 (vs. UH Alumnae), 11-2 (vs. Long Beach State). OUT. 4 I do like the fact that Lakeside Christian Camp-- Preparing New England's Youth for Christian Life is being advertised on my Ad Bar currently.

^ Where is #8 and why is she not playing Libero for team USA?!www.toyota-body.co.jp/queenseis/I really shouldn't have posted my Msrpantoja1@___.com email on Cindy's blog; so for whoever you are..make it a finality pls.&Yet speaking of Da Alumnae, When did Tehani take up Pa'u (cause it wasn't w/ supposed class of 2000 incl. Jameka S and J Sudduth)?? --- Oh yeah and 'Frieda' *an alias of one of no more than aprx. three in "Political Ramblings"* she's likely Jezebel infected. --- As for VB, the sum two nearsighted Mary Turrellas in "2013 Wahine VB Articles" arguing about LOH2 vs. OPP (Tai/Kastl/Nikki Taylor)... Da RS WILL be a liability 'R'egardless. No true OPPs had been recruited. Iron sharpens iron, Goodman/Kastl SHOULD be able to squeak something out with regards to offense. Tai was a LS @ Punahou; she was so on the A2 also; she's improving/caught a 'VB bug'; have some faith. Playing da BW is NOT the A2. -think on it. Would 2014 be a brand new year for ALL pin hitters? --some body needs a 'running start' asap. With as many DSs as Dave's got, who said that an OH2 couldn't *occasionally* be subbed in the backrow?! --- Most UH VT fans are surely on the sidelines.

TEAM
They might have to go with a 6-2..
IF Mita can't pull herself (and consequently the team) out of her 'funk'..cause she aint getting any love from Robyn in the way of a gentle reminder, then:
OH1- Hartong OH2- Kastl
MB1- Kalei MB2- ?
Setters- Mita, Tayler OPPs- Olevao, Goodman
Nikki is more than a great sub off of the bench at LS or RS. Mendoza is that "pure" passer that could enter if needed. --- The Libero2 SHOULD be just that..a back up to Longo. She's a froshman for goodness sakes! Lelepali is no more a DS than she was last year. I had hoped that she would've improved, but I guess it's all bout "fun".

Who is the "froshman" No. 2 libero? Katiana Ponce is the only freshman in the defensive group. -------------------------- Ali Longo (5-6, Sr.) -------------------------- Kayla Kawamura (5-4, So.) -------------------------- Sarah Mendoza (5-5, Jr.) -------------------------- Courtney Lelepali (5-7, Sr.) -------------------------- Katiana Ponce (5-3, Fr.) --------------------------
Also, anyone who won the no. 2 libero job deserves to play. Being the No. 2 libero means you beat everyone else and should make you the top DS. According to the article by Miller, sophomore Kawamura is the No. 2 libero, and she has been limited to serving sub for one of the MBs, which was the Ginger Long/Lelepali role last year. And Shoji has put Lelepali in the bigger Emily Maeda role on the right, although Sarah Mendoza had a good weekend and could probably win that job.

I`m all for supporting USD this week and through the season. They definitely deserve it the way they played the Wahine. I hope they win all their matches this week. Better for Hawaii.

yup, this happens every year ... whoever hawaii plays in the non-conference part of the season, we become their biggest fans and root for them to do well on the rest of their schedule, so that hawaii gets an RPI boost. it's not usually a problem anyway getting an RPI boost from teams like San Diego and Texas on the schedule. those teams will always have a solid win/loss record. it's the teams like UTEP (who hawaii also played last weekend), that we really gotta root for to have a solid season. they don't have to go undefeated (because realistically, they won't), but we need/want them to at least have a win/loss record above .500. So yes, go Torreros! ... but also go Miners!
