I'm still wondering about the logic behind this rule change. I love and understand the logic of eliminating overhead serve reception but not this move. Anyone find anything on official releases? If anything the sport needs longer matches now, even a five set match does not last that long compared to most other sports action on tv. People like to be entertained for a long time. So why do you want to end rallies so fast because the first contact wasn't as clean as you would like it to be?

The amount of subs is the problem with tv viewing. No one understands who can go in for who or why, because they are so used to basketball rules. Go to the international standard of six subs in a set, force players to play all the way around and coaches to have to make some tough decisions....that would help some. I don't understand this. What other sport limits their subs? Baseball, I suppose, but just in terms of re-entry. Anything like six subs per game, 1 re-entry, is not something you see in any other sport. soccer (fifa rules).

Yes sometimes you see some super ugly overhead passes, same thing for the setting rules, they should be tighter. It doesn't have the same effect as messing with the scoring. I'm sorry chowder is chowder.

All the changes that FIVB wants to make have nothing to do with volleyball, or television, or what ever you want. FIVB has a new President, and as any new President, Mr Graça wants to leave his mark. That's all it is about. And changing the rules of the game is symbol of power, more than anything else. And also the changes generally occur at the beginning and at the end of a presidency. At the beginning = demonstration of power and leadership. At the end = call to recognition.

It's also true that the FIVB seems to be modelling itself, in many ways, on FIFA. Especially in terms of rules. Maybe because they're both world-wide sports. Is Basketball next? Speaking of soccer, wouldn't it be a better sport with more liberal subbing?
