Saw King Richard yesterday. What a story, what a movie, should be Oscar nominated. Edit: The one thing so important that Richard taught his daughters was self respect. He also had a strong commitment to normalness, and the belief of a higher power. He, through love, made the girls able to believe in themselves.

Black Widow Thought this was a great closure for Natasha's role as the Black Widow with the Avengers, though it appears that future Black Widow movie is possible with Yelena ("sister") taking the mantle. Nice combo if drama, action and comedy though Alexei's (father) character seems to have gone from a serious spy agent to become the jester. Maybe a little over-the-top trying to be funny, but blended with the story better than THE Suicide Squad (2021), Birds of Prey and Whedon's Justice League. Very surprised to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus joining the Marvel comics family. Had to stare hard when I saw her in the end-credit scenes...looks much older now than her days as Elaine Benes in Seinfeld

American Underdog. Kurt Warner story. Sappy, smaltzy, and I loved it. He’s does a lot of charity work here. Really seems like a good guy. My golf teacher who wants to make on the LPGA tour found it very inspiring.

My golf teacher who wants to make on the LPGA tour found it very inspiring. He has a pretty amazing story. He was working for minimum wage at a grocery store in Iowa after failing to get onto an NFL team after he graduated. And then he was in the Arena League before getting a shot with the Rams as a backup to Trent Green, who got hurt in the 1999 preseason. Warner then had one of the best seasons in NFL history, winning the MVP and leading the Rams to their first Super Bowl. And now he's in the Hall of Fame. Incredible. As for the movie, it has a decent RT score of 75%. But it also has a rare A+ rating from CinemaScore (grades there tend to be relatively high, as opening weekend audiences are pretty self-selective--for example, getting a C from CinemaScore is like getting an F from the critics). I'll have to check it out. I really like Warner.

Well, based on this review, it sounds like a pretty big part. Maybe 6 or 7 out 10. I don't think you can really tell Kurt Warner's story without religion, just like I don't think you could tell David Robinson's story. But I haven't seen the movie yet (I'll wait until it's out on video), so we'll see what azvb says. Also, a bit unrelated, but they cast Zachary Levi to play Warner...how often is the Hollywood actor less good looking than the person they're playing?

Hmmmm-I definitely wouldn’t say more than 3-4. It’s not in your face at all, IMO. Off the top of my head, I can only think of two times-once he says, “I need your help”, another when he thanks God after the Super Bowl. Not in a “Thanks for helping us win” way, but “thanks for everything” way. I’m guessing the book he wrote is much more “religious” than the movie. It’s a don’t give up on your dreams story much more than a religious story. And a really sweet love story.

He sounds like a nice guy, too. Well, I've never met him. But I also never heard anything bad said about Curt. After leaving football, he ended up opening up a car dealership. He lives not exactly in Seattle, but in the area. His dealership was closer to Portland than Seattle.

Has anyone seen The Batman yet? I'm a huge fan of Christopher Nolan and his take, but this was better! Wondering what others thought.

CODA deserves a few Oscar nominations. CODA has only 3 Oscar nominations. Oh well. - Picture (good chance) - Supporting Actor (very good chance) - Adapted Screenplay (some chance) Drive My car is my close 2nd favorite among the Best Picture nominees. I couldn't believe I went the whole 3 hours without break! I have probably watched the original West Side Story half a dozen times, but am not anxious to watch the 2021 version -- I do not care for the male lead's singing voice. I'll watch it eventually.

If CODA does win, it would have the fewest nominations for a Best Picture winner since The Grand Hotel in 1932, which got just the one nomination.
