I can't speak for Heinrich. But walkons, preferred walkons can "sign" cause it makes them feel good (Gabriel's below) A friend of mine's daughter got an offer to play for UT Dallas, which is Div III and definitely does not offer scholarships for sports. She had a signing ceremony in her high school along with other players at her school. Because it's fun to have that attention.
That much I do recall. But, as for Heinrich, Texas included her as part of their official release in November. And, there are quotes included from Coach Elliott about Heinrich. A coach is not allowed to comment on a recruit until/unless they sign with their school. So, she signed something that made her part of Texas' 2020 official recruiting class.
13.10.2.1 Comments Before Commitment. Before the signing of a prospective student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent or an institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid or before the institution receives his or her financial deposit in response to its offer of admission, a member institution may comment publicly only to the extent of confirming its recruitment of the prospective student-athlete. The bolded above are the other ways a recruit can become ‘committed’ and then the coach can publicly announce them.

As the poster above mentioned, coaches can comment about walk-ons when they are officially accepted to the school and the walk-on completes the process to officially accept the invitation which usually means they made a down payment. There is no official paperwork that a walk-on can sign, but schools many times provide the walk-on some sort of document that they can "sign" at a signing ceremony. It's just good PR. Remember a walk-on can change their mind and go to another school up to the time that they start classes.

Scenario: 1. Player graduates from her P5 college after finishing her degree, but not using up all her eligibility 2. She "transfers" (applies and gets accepted) to one of the top MBA schools in the country, McCombs School of Business at UT 3. UT Volleyball hears about this, and they woo her asking if she'll walk on to play a supporting role
Morgan O'Brien?
No, Lauren Dickson (https://texassports.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/lauren-dickson/1155)
1. Went to Virginia and got an Accounting degree, redshirted 1 year. Team captain 2. Got accepted to MBA program at Texas in 2010
3. Texas got wind of this somehow (she is an Austin native so not a stretch to figure out someone reached out to Texas Volleyball). They must have wooed her a bit 4. Walked onto the team in a supporting role, but because of a rash of critical injuries she ended contributing much more near the end of the season to help them get to a Final Four*
You substitute Dickson and O'Brien and I think that's the situation here.
*My personal opinion it was the best coaching job Jerritt ever pulled off. At one point, there were a few games there were only 2 subs available during matches. The team came off the court exhausted.

Lol I meant as in me personally. As in I didn't know anything about her until a few months ago and many people in here didn't know about her as well.

I’ve seen posts about Morgan O’Brien but haven’t been very active recently.... is she for sure on the team as a player next season? I know there was speculation about what her role may be

All we know is that she is enrolled at UT and has some type of dealing with the volleyball program but can't say for sure what that dealing is. Only way to find out would be waiting until Texas releases the roster which is unfortunately taking forever to get released.

Looks like Parra and Adhuoljok Malual will be joining in Spring 2021 due to the pandemic.

Born in Rome 11/14/00. Looks younger in her photos, but will be 20 when "starting" school next Spring.

If I did my conversions correctly, I believe she jump touches almost 10’7!

I have been searching for about an hour and cannot find any video on her. They said she played in the u20 world championship and I watched those matches but from the looks of it she did not get playing time. I will continue to look and will drop a link if I find something but if anyone beats me to it please share with the rest of us🤘🏾
