Hey chin ho... I downloaded the 2003 NCAA stats from their website (apparently by Rick Hazeltine...hazeltine@earthlink.net) Maybe Rick can fill you in on that type of stats for setters. Sorry I couldn't help...I don't make up the stats, I just use them to evaluate how well everyone is doing. Enjoy some great volleyball in the following few weeks. It's for all the marbles!!!

Hey Chin Ho ,Just go to each teams site individually and you can compare all stats of all players in the same format on each site. Kimo had 85 blocks in 100 games and Hansen had 65 blocks in 97 games and Mayer had 89 blocks in 93 games.

Stats don't tell you much of anything for a setter...for example if a setter has ~1kpg, then their apg will theoretically go down about 1, which is the difference between 1st and 7th or 8th nationally...also you have to look at who the setter has around him and what he is working with...in reality, you could be the best setter in the nation, but still be playing for USC with a bunch of guys who can't pass nor put the ball away (that is just an example...by no means am I saying that Miles is the best setter) Blocks are also a stat by a setter that doesn't always say much because if your middle helps you out, you both get credit for the block. (granted the setter helped to set the block, but you know what I mean)...so in the end, stats are all fun to look at and they can say a lot at some positions, but I don't think that setter is one of those. If the setter is good, then he is good...there can be a bad setter with a bunch of smart hitters and the setter will still be looked at as being good - I am saying that there are no horrible setters, but there are some setters out there who are surrounded by very gifted hitter...there are a lot of good setters out there and the ones who are great separate themselves in many other ways than just throwing up good stats.

WORD! Stats are over-rated... They can be VERY deceptive and manipulated. BOOOOO....
What is Mankind? To figure this out, we must look at the words that make up mankind; mank and ind. What do these words mean? We don't know, and therefore will never truly know mankind.

Hawai'i fans appreciate Kimo, I don't think the stats and awards matter to us. He has set the Warriors to a National Championship, and is on the verge of setting the Warriors to yet another. A Championship ring is better than individual awards.
Go Warriors !

Stats are very overrated. I am only a high school player, but I see it quite often that guys with good stats get more attention than other guys.
For example, for the past two years, I have been one of the best setters in my conference, but because I played middle while I was in the front row, I was overlooked for all-conference because I did not have the same number of assists as the other setters because I only set half the time. Then, this year during the preseason, there was an article written about another setter from the conference and a big deal was made about him simply because he had a couple of good hitters that boosted his stats. He is not a great setter, he is slow and very lazy, but just because he had good stats, he was looked upon as great. I think that in some cases stats can be a good judge, but not always.
Another case, Kim Willoughby of Hawaii in the women's game. Yes she produced a huge number of kills, but who does she play against each night, a bunch of weaker teams that dont come close to Hawaii.
It would be the equivalent of the top 6 teams in the MPSF playing in the EIVA.

tigfan you didn't even watch the match did you? It wasn't that he played that bad, BYU just had him scouted too well. That is the reason Rasay's hitters were getting 1 on 1s.

Okay, so now, is there any chance Hawai‘i will be given the at large bid? oh Ms. Cleo, tell us so. ;D
They tried their best to garner another banner for us. Mahalo Na Koa for the season.

This wasn't a loss by individual players, the Warriors lost as a TEAM. All your ragging on Tuyay won't change a thing. Warrior fans think no less of Kimo Tuyay now then we thought of him before the match. BYU was just the better team tonight... Plain and Simple.

I was thinking if BYU goes down convincingly to Pepperdine, with Hawaii being defending national champions and their loss to BYU being kind of dubious with the calls in G1 and G2 there could be a slim (read 1 in 1000) chance, but I think they need to write one hell of a letter to get it. I have pretty much given up on it, but the NCAA has done stranger things.

Whoever losses th MPSF finals will get the at large bid, as much as it sucks to say it, either BYU or Pepperdine deserve it over the Warriors .

Then again there have been occasions where one of the teams who lost in the semis has gotten the at large. Usually it is only when they have been the top team for a good portion of the season. Still, it wouldn't be that far fetched considering BYU is kind of the odd man out, being the only of the top 4 not to be #1 this season (I think).
