They usually stick to particular matches, but roam when something appears to be in hand or lost. They are allowed to coach during timeouts.

Pepp beats USC 3-2. #1 's was a barnburner, USC winning 18-16 in the third.
FSU/Pepp in an hour for the championship.
@wang pu: Coaches can sit in the player box, AVP-style. No coaching during play, but it's OK during timeouts. Coaches do move around some depending on what's happening on a particular court.

FSU and Pepp tied 2-2. The national championship comes down to the #2's playing now. Wind has kicked up out of the west, so good side/bad side a real factor in scoring right now.

Pepperdine wins. Someone should note that.

Yes, Pepperdine won - my phone died. Plus, free beer - which can be distracting. It was really tight all the way. Really good volleyball played today (AAA/Open level, if not better).
For tomorrow's pairs championship: #1 seed: Pepp One; #2 seed: Florida St One; #3 Hawai'i One; #4 seed: USC One.

Wow, those 4 teams really established that they are ahead of all the other programs. I thought for sure USC would win or at least end up in the championship. Is USC the only one of the four programs that have their courts on campus?

Is USC the only one of the four programs that have their courts on campus? Florida State has a really nice on-campus facility, five courts. Hawai'i is in the process of getting campus courts built. I think Pepp will always use Zuma.

Pepperdine beat USC both times they played on the beach (second time around was closer) and USC easily defeated Pepperdine on their home court. UCLA's sand courts are almost completed:

It's a legit question. USC trains and plays the majority of their time in near-zero wind. Pepp trains and plays at Zuma, where there is almost always a breeze coming off the Pacific. And the ability to play in gusty winds was definitely a factor this weekend in Gulf Shores.
BTW, UCLA is going to be a force in the next few seasons - they have some serious talent coming in: Muno, Ivie Schmitt, the McNamara twins, Elise Zappia, Izzy Carey, and they have a great shot at getting Kathryn Plummer (a 6'5" setter/RS who also a damn good beach player).

Did the wind bother USC? Some rave about their facilities, but there are virtually no wind or sun factors there. Their worst loss was at Zuma where there is always wind. Geddy, was that a factor? Also, did FSU have a lot of crowd support? Thanks.

I heard Plummer was looking at Pepp and Hawaii too? Geddy any more Karissa Cook's next year? By that I mean any indoor scholarship players transferring to go on sand scholie their fifth year?

Me too but by then I hope the west gets more than just 3 bids into the championships, if not some damn good teams will be left out.

By my count there's three more sand specialists coming in (2 next year, 1 more in 2015) on top of the ones you mentioned. Seems like they're going to try and minimize indoor crossover players as they get closer to an NCAA sport.

Is there an individual team championship (one pair) and an overall team championship? (by school) If so can players change their partners for the individual championship? So if Peppperdine had the two best players could they split them for the school national championship and then reunited them for the pairs?
