What happens to the tournament with lightening and storms predicted? I understand that the flights are delayed as well. Three teams can drive to the site but three teams have to fly in. Just curious.

Didn't this happen last year?

Hawaii tweeted that their flight was canceled. Bussing it for 9 hours instead.

Just got in to Gulf Shores. Conditions are fine right now, and are supposed to be excellent for the weekend.
But yeah, it was a bitch getting here due to the weather.

Well, this has worked out pretty well after all the weather problems early in the week: first day of play - around 70 degrees, no wind, partly cloudy, not real humid...pretty much perfect conditions for beach volleyball. The venue looks great, as well. I'm a terrible photographer, but I might try to post a few from the event.

Major Upset! Hawaii 3 - USC 2 Ehh wouldn't call it major. It was close when they played earlier and the matches UH lost all went 3 sets if I believe. I was a little shocked tiegs and cook defeated burnham and hughes in straight sets. Thought it would go 3.

The win by USC over Hawaii was early in the season at Hawaii. This win by Hawaii feels good though.

It's a pretty big deal. But having confidence in your team is always good. Anyway, happy for Hawaii, particularly after their ordeal getting here - turned away from Pensacola airport, re-routed to Houston, rented cars for a 9 hour drive to Gulf Shores.
The tournament is double elim, so there's a pretty decent chance that Hawaii will see USC again tomorrow morning.
Burnham didn't look right today - I wonder if her back issues are in play. Regardless, Tiegs and especially Karissa were excellent in the #1's match.

Hawaii will play the winner of fsu and fiu, and pepp will play the winner of usc and stenson. And agreed, I'm very happy for hawaii. Tiegs and cook definitely have the potential to take the pairs championship.

Shouldn't have used the word "morning" - my time zones are a little screwed up right now. That extremely likely Pepp-USC semi will be nasty tomorrow, and FSU-Hawaii could be really good as well. FSU lost 4-1 to Pepp, but it was a better match than the score showed.

Assuming fsu wins, hawaii can't take them lightly. They are a very talented team and hawaii will have to play their best to win. Usc and pepp will be an amazing game (assuming usc beats stenson). Hawaii obviously matches better against usc, but the sweeps Pepperdine gave hawaii don't really show how close they are. Most of those matches either went overtime or in five. But overall I'm just happy hawaii is in the semis. Scott and company have done amazing things with the program.

First Semifinal: Florida St beats Hawai'i 4-1. I believe every match went to three games. A break here or there and Hawai'i could have won by the same score. Hell of match.
Pepp and USC now warming up.

And are coaches allowed to "coach" during the matches?
