Heard it's really windy - 15-25 MPH. And Nick/Avatar get to 2-0 beating #8 Vitor Felipe-Evandro!! (I think that get's them out #1 in their pool no matter the outcome of their remaining match) I think they are starting to gel bit. They've had 2 quality wins today. FYI, today is Rosey's birthday.

With Fopma/Pavlik's 25th in Berlin, Hochevar/Carico pass them in entry points for The Hague tournament as the fourth ranked US Women's team. Not coincidentally, the Hague will be the first tournament that Pavlik loses her 4th at last year's Worlds from the point calculation.
So Fopma/Pavlik have Stavanger and Gstaad to try and get some points back. If they can't get it done there and the last USAV article was correct that they are going to strictly go by points the rest of the year, it may be Hochevar/Carico the rest of the season. Of course, I know that team has had some injuries, so that could also be a factor.

Sean/Phil down a set in their 1 round match against NED. Tied at 11s in the 2nd.

Gibb/Patterson lose in their first round match to the Spaniards. Anyone able to see if Phil and Sean were able to pull it out?
Just saw they lost too. WHat disappointing finishes for the Americans this year so far on the FIVB. World is becoming just too good at Beach in a sport we once dominated.

WHat disappointing finishes for the Americans this year so far on the FIVB. World is becoming just too good at Beach in a sport we once dominated. It happened once before (the Fonoimoana/Holdren generation of players did very poorly against the world internationally) Sean/Phil have to acknowledge they have a serious problem. At their best at the start-middle of last year they were killing teams, but they now have gone almost a year without winning. When does Phil pull the trigger, and is it harder now that he is back on the left (I am assuming he would go to Casey, who is also on the left right now, although he played right very successfully with Doherty I think)

Is it really Phil? He is the one constantly getting served and struggling to side out at times. I know without giving it much thought he would be the one to pull the trigger but it seems like he's the one struggling between him and Sean. At some point he needs to start being accountable for his own game and I think that's the problem right there. He just doesn't seem to have the mentality for that. Rodgers was great for him because Rodgers kept everything in check and allowed Phil to do the things he is good at but there aren't any other Rodgers and at some point Phil is going to have to start acting like one of the elite pplayers if he wants to stay there and that goes beyond the physical skillset he was gifted with, like actually conditioning and working out, and other mental aspects of the game.

Leads me to an interesting question...
Not really sure how the process for Olympic qualification works exactly, but will we likely see 2 of the 4 teams (in this event, or some collaberation of teams from these 8 players) in the next Olympics, or is there time/chance for any youth/others to get in the mix?
Does anyone here that follows Beach Volleyball closely anticiapte a turnover of players at the FIVB level on the USA side after the Olympics if it is indeed these guys? Does USA have any young guys coming up that could be great?
One of the reasons I loved Steffes, because he was so good at such a young age, and I knew I could be following this player for 10+ years and watch him dominate (if it wasn't for the AVP bankruptcy). Italy has a couple very young elite talents that will be around for 15 years or so, I wish on seeing that from the American side again.

With Sean the question would be "where does he go?" Jake Gibb has had a great run, but he is 38 years old and kicked off the year with some bad finishes, including this week. Plus if you were Jake would you dump Casey for Sean? I guess Brunner is a possibility, but he, Ryan, and Tri are all clearly inferior to Phil.

Hyden/Bourne have the easiest possible route to the semis. This should be their tournament. If I were a betting man, I would bet on them making the podium.

Sean does not pick his partner....Phil is better than Jake, so Phil choose if he wants Patterson...

Nice to see two USA men teams in the semifinals. Avatar/Nick and Hyden/Bourne! One of them at the very least is bringing home a medal. Hopefully two. Walross settles for fifth this time as Brazil takes them out in three.

Seems kinda sad that the Brazilian women almost always have two or three teams making it the later rounds, and we only have Kerri/April making it that far, with no strong #2-#4 teams to back them up. Looks even worse on the men's side now (with the exception of this tournament), since we are now without a Kerri/April-type dominant team with the demise of Todd/Sean. Realistically, how many strong finishes do guys like Gibb and Hyden have left in them? Sorry to be so negative, but the state of US beach volleyball on the world stage has dropped dramatically, and I know that we always go back to the fact that the rest of the world is much stronger and has caught up to (and surpassed) the US, but how does that square with the fact that the Brazilians still consistently have several teams at or near the top? That being said, I sure hope that one of our two remaining men's teams can pull it out this weekend!!!!!
