All US final. Ryan was extremely impressive in this match. Nick did not side out well or play particularly good defense, but Ryan was virtually unstoppable. There were a couple aces he didnt touch, but otherwise I dont think he gave up a point. And his blocking was simply awesome. By the end of the third, Brazil wasnt even thinking of swinging

Doherty not the serving or hitting force he was in the semi. He is having trouble getting the ball past Tri, who has turned into an excellent blocker. 10-5 for Bourne-Hyden and this looks like a blowout. Ryan having a 2013 kind of game and Nick not picking him up

14-7, Tri with another block and Nick with that lazy Florida thing he does sometimes to poke one into the net rather than giving away a free ball

Awesome to have these 2 in the finals, even if it was a stinker.
Ryan,Hyden and Tri's biggest pay day!!
I guess we can put the Avatar not being a volleyball player argument to rest.

Awesome to have these 2 in the finals, even if it was a stinker. Ryan,Hyden and Tri's biggest pay day!! I guess we can put the Avatar not being a volleyball player argument to rest. In the semi, Ryan dominated a very good Brazil team. He had Pedro in the closet, and his siding out was absolutely automatic. That said if he were 6'4 he would never qualify. I dont think the argument was that he isnt a volleyball player it was, "his skills are so awful only his height lets him compete." I think that is still true to a degree, but whereas before all he had was being tall, now he has two strong skills. His blocking has much improved. I still blame Todd a little for how bad it was last year, but if you watch him with Todd or even before with Casey, he did not dominate good hitters, whereas in the semi here he absolutely did, and in parts of the final he made a big impact too. His jump serve, when its on, is also becoming a real weapon and he showed flashes of being able to side out at a level that will be sending all serves Nick's way if he can maintain it. Tri Bourne was also a real force at the net both in the semis and the finals. I formerly thought he may need to switch to defending or maybe switch off with someone, but I am now convinced he can be the blocker on a top 5 team in the world. Great weekend for these two teams, and now Sean Rosenthal has some interesting options when Phil finally dumps him

Never before have I been this happy to eat my words - way to shut me up, US Men! Let's hope it carries over into more tournaments this year!

Hyden/Bourne pass Rogers/Brunner in entry points effective for the Hague tournament. So Rogers/Brunner have a one tournament window in Gstaad to get some grand slam points and then it will go back to Hyden/Bourne.
Silver also means Lucena/Doherty are probably out of the qualifier and into automatic main draw territory.
