He's a good young player. He's not a huge blocker but good. I watched him in at Pete qualifier this year. They almost lost to one of out good Florida teams in 3. Then should have beat gibb and Casey and a good match.
A mini tri is a good example. There about the same height etc. It's always hard to say you know. Like casebeer. Last year he was good. Made in it one main draw but this year playing with Casey j makes him seem better. Like if tri would have picked up tramblie and Hyden would have picked up Avery for instance, Avery would win more and tri probably woulnd have.

Avery had a good run during the last Cuervo's with Tramblie. I think they made one final. I just watched his match and he has a couple of good blocks. Most impressive thing I saw was his pulling - he pulled several times, got digs and transitioned. Not sure who they play next, but Casey seems to bring out the best in his partners.

A couple of things I've noticed today: - according to the wsobv twitter feed, there were two country qualifier type matches today. According to the feed, engle-Hughes beat Daley-Van Zweiten and Jennings-Drost beat Slick-Montgomery both to get into the wsobv. That said, the fivb site shows engle-Hughes in the quali but not Jennings-Drost, it shows slick-Montgomery. I guess well see what happens tomorrow. - it is now listing pavlick playing with Branagh, not fopma. Guessing injury? - I just noticed that it is a little different than last year. Basically the fivb goes through Sunday for both men and women. Last year the women ended in Friday and men Saturday with the wsobv exhibitions happened on Saturday and Sunday. Was that just a one time thing for tv? Maybe to guarantee that Kerri would play on TV last year? US now has 7 teams per gender. I believe that can happen when teams don't show up at technical meeting. Additionally, Larissa/Talita got in as 5th Brazilian team. Amazing that even with $1 million purse and plenty of registrations, we can't fill up the qualifier for a US event. Conover tweeted yesterday something about life not being fair. Hopefully there isn't anything too serious that prevented Fopma from playing in the event. Second year in a row Pavlik has had to pull a veteran off the sidelines into this tournament (last year was Davis). Maybe Cam Kerr or Geddy can get some official information about the extra US/Brazilian teams. Interesting point about the qualifier. Not only is it fairly sparse, but I notice a number of the teams entered are made up of expats who live in Hermosa, Manhattan, Huntington etc. Perhaps teams balked at making an eleven hour flight (a pricey one, at that, if you're flying nonstop) to play in a qualie?

I'm sure that's the case, particularly since they can't stay on and play in other North American tournaments. FIVB needs to string together 3 stops in a row in this time zone.

Also bummed that the live scoring doesn't appear to be working. Can't remember if it has worked during the qualifier at other stops?

Yeah, and the next tournament is back in Europe (Klagenfurt, an event no player wants to miss) two days after Long Beach. Doesn't seem to make much sense for many of the teams to do a Europe-California-Europe hopscotch in the space of a week. And, yeah, it would be great if there was a North American swing for the tour. Like Long Beach-somewhere in Mexico-Toronto/Montreal over the course of a month.

17 22-Jul 12:00 1 Maria Clara-Carol BRA [1] Grawender-Lundqvist SWE [17] 0-2 (15-21, 20-22) 0:40
Wow. Barring a miracle, I think this result, coupled with Fernanda/Lima's win last week is a pretty good indication of the which team is going to be the 5th Brazilian team on the outside looking in at the beginning of 2015.

Wait, there's an East Coast?
Seriously, though, I know the FIVB has been trying to get a Florida event for quite some time, but I don't think a legit promoter and lead sponsor have stepped up to make it happen yet.

Couldn't they have put Long Beach and Mexico together? I guess one is a Grand Slam and the other an Open.....

Seems like I've heard on the Net Live or somewhere that it is a goal of the NVL/Rox/Al-B to have a FIVB event at their new Club Med location (in Port St. Lucie I think). Am I making that up or does anyone else remember hearing that too? They actually mention "FIVB professional events" on their website talking about the new facility. www.nvlroxbeachseries.com/beach-national-championships.html

Jennings/Drost are in! Drost came up with some big blocks at the end of game 3 to pull away and win a very tight match against Switzerland.

I'm thinking Thursday will be a good day to go as far as competition since they will be playing the 3rd and final matches of pool play where some teams will be playing to move on and then elimination rounds 1 and 2. Unfortunately, the bikini contest isn't Thursday...

Casey got fined for the stuff he did to the ref at the end of the match. I think he was in the right for those two back to back red cards.
As for me, I took on the Kerri Cannon:
