]No kidding. And Larissa beat Juliana pretty handily. Looks like a tough road for Pavlick/Branagh in that pool. They didn't do well against Argentina and get Juliana later today and Larissa in the morning. Talita and Maria Elisa Antonelli are pretty decent players themselves. Just saying.....

Wow, proud of myself I just watched an entire women's match on the stream. Ross/Day really shouldn't have won that match. That lefty Polish chic could not hit a ball inbounds, she killed her partner. The Polish defender was the best player on the court, she made several great digs and putaways. I don't understand the lack of fire/energy from Ross/Day. I mean I know Ross is young but she doesn't seem to play with much urgency or fire. Day had a few aces but also had probably close to 8 service errors which is too many.
In the other match I had never really seen Lane Carico play. She, on the other hand, seems to play with urgency, aggressiveness, and some fire...and she's pretty powerful.

Oh, man, Drost was terrible in that first match. He was really struggling to put balls away and had a ton of hitting errors. It wasn't for lack of effort, though. He seemed to have good energy and fired up to be playing...hopefully he can improve in his next two matches.

So nice to be able to watch the Laola stream. Rosie and Phil sleepwalking through their first match.
Felt sorry for Drost - did not look ready to play that level of team.
Great first win for Carico. Was hoping they'd have a strong showing this tournament and they're off to a nice start.

I went by the media tent around noon to ask about the "Collegiate Sand Championships" which are supposed to happen tomorrow. Who's playing, which courts? First the woman handed me a printout of the FIVB player list. When I pointed out that that was not relevant, she looked around and checked the web and said, "It will be players from colleges and universities." Uhhh, thanks. She asked around the tent, and no one knew anything.
This seems like a really well-run event; this is my first thing to complain about.

Ya, they are only doing press for the FIVB event out of this tent. Edit: And yes, it's crazy unorganized.

Casey got fined for the stuff he did to the ref at the end of the match. I think he was in the right for those two back to back red cards. As for me, I took on the Kerri Cannon: Yeah when a ball comes that fast I have to watch it come into the platform and resist the temptation to push up too much with my legs, which is what I do when I haven't been playing alot. But actually watching it travel into your forearms helps ALOT. It's just too fast to use peripheral vision.

Whats going on with live scoring? They can do this in Transylvania but not California? It's the new BVIS system (The FIVB system that handles scoring and reporting of matches), they were testing it out and I don't think they brought the live scoring hardware to this event. The scorers tables all have touch based tablets so that it updates in real time, but I don't see that here.
