ACC acceded to Duke’s initial and sole demand. Devils are now #1. Breaking reports from the Triangle confirm though that’s not enough now for the horned Devils to secure the poll release: UNC must be last in the poll. Negotiations continue. So not even late today... still no poll... you must be right... ACC is afraid to publish if Duke not # 1... LOL....does your source have an "in" with the voting committee? Well, does it really matter where teams are ranked in preseason anyway? Whoever is not ranked #1 will argue why their team is best. All that really matters is which team proves it on the court throughout the season. Good luck to all and GO DUKE!!!

I know this is a preseason poll, but I find it odd that McClendon isn't listed on the preseason all conference. Janelle Jenkins is extremely inconsistent and Maya is certainly the go to player on this Louisville squad. It will be interesting to see how this Louisville team plays in the much more tougher conference.

It is a close race at the #1, #2 and #3 ranked spot between FSU-Duke-UNC... I only wish FSU played Duke 2 times this season.. unfortunately with 15 teams now in the ACC that schedule did not work out this season.. At least FSU plays UNC away and home this season. UNC does play Duke 2 times so it may come down to this match up determining the winner of the ACC in 2014 as it did last year. Had UNC beat Duke in that final match up.. FSU would have taken the ACC title in 2013.

So Good to see 4 ACC Teams represented in this weeks AVCA Coaches Poll
FLORIDA STATE #8 DUKE #19 UNC #20 LOUISVILLE #24
The ACC had the 3rd most teams in the Top 25 after the Big (7) and Pac 12 (6)
Also Congrats to Florida State's Nic Walch and Louisville freshman, Maggie DeJong on their ACC Player of the Week Recognition !
I think it's great the AVCA makes public each coaches vote.. adds accountability IMO.

I'm not that familiar with ACC volleyball, except FSU and Clemson. Did anyone watch the matches this week to give an honest observation of how the other ACC teams played? Are they as good as the Big 12, SEC, PAC12? Please no trolls who just want to make wiseass comments.

Setter is a fighter, and works well with the middles. But, all in all they only have one true weapon that would match up against the Big Ten teams, McClendon.

They outblocked Minnesota for most of that match (Minny made up something like 7 blocks in the 3rd set). Wisconsin was able to figure out their blocking scheme and outsmart them. The faster offense that Wisconsin runs also contributed to ND not being able to get their block up in time. Natalie Johnson, ND's freshman libero, is the one who really stood out to me. She wears a brace that suggests to me an ACL reconstruction in her past. Whether that's what kept her from being recruited by more "power conference" schools, or whether she just wanted to go to ND, the Irish are lucky to have her. I mentioned this in the WI/ND match thread, but Rainbowspouse compared her to a Roomba: Small, and ALL OVER YOUR FLOOR PICKING STUFF UP. She's quick and covers a lot of ground. Made a ton of amazing saves. Really fun player to watch.

I'll give a full rundown of the first week later, but right now I can tell you that they don't have the talent of of those three conferences. However, the ACC is comparable to the SEC this year, and not too far behind the Big 12. IMO UNC, Duke, FSU, Louisvlle and Miami all have favorable shots at making the tourney this year, which is probably more than the Big 12 wlll get

The girl who hit .050 and .130 this weekend? She's not her sister. If anything, it was the middles who would be the "weapons"

If anything, it was the middles who would be the "weapons" I'd say Louisville's success stems from the ability of McVey and George, along with her connection with the middles. They can be very successful if they feed the middles like they dd against Minny. I think people assume McClendon is better than she is as a result of her name.

If anything, it was the middles who would be the "weapons" Just to play devil's advocate, do you think it possible that teams knew McClendon would be the biggest risk and planned ways to shut her down? Now granted, if McClendon is their biggest weapon, Louisville needs to plan for other teams to scout the heck out of her and she needs to be crafty and able to adapt to opponents' attempts to shut her down.

If you're really curious to play devil's advocate, look at her stats for the two matches this weekend, then look up last year's box scores. She's yet to have a decent (e.g., above .200) hitting day against Top 30-type teams. She's a fiery player, plays good defense, etc., but you need to bring it at least once in a while to be a B1G-caliber "weapon."
