Because I think she'd be a better opposite than Hannah. I also think her breakout season had to do with her blocking, more than her offense. I'd like to see her on the right against the opposition's best OH.
Maddie grew an inch since last year's roster. Without getting into the accuracy of these measurements, let's just say Paige would be a much more intimidating blocker.

In your opinion, do you think Maddie will get opportunities to play or not see much playing time throughout her career? I thought last year the few times she was on the court, she did ok and I didn't see anything that stood out that she isn't developing (as an outsider looking in). Thanks in advance for your insight.

My two cents:
I think Maddie might get slightly more opportunities to play if she would focus more on becoming a six-rotation player, as opposed to simply an OPP/MB. Maybe she is doing that right now, for all we know. Gophers are starting to get quite deep at outside, too, but it would simply increase her chances of playing time. She hasn't really played enough yet to string together any major points or numbers so it's a bit difficult to judge if she will be seeing a lot more time. I will agree that she played well when she was in and was never a hindrance to the team in any aspect.

PS I had a dream last night where I got to interview Lauren Carlini after a Gopher/Badger match.
I definitely didn't hate it. Someone call an ambulance; I think I'm ill.

I don't know. I think, despite her abilities -- and she does have them -- there are too many better players ahead of her. I could be wrong, of course.

To Maddie's credit, being behind both Tapps in the depth chart would be a difficult spot to be for a LOT of middles/opposites, not just for her. Both have the magic ability to leap out of the room. This is one area where our depth (relative to other positions on the team) is a great thing to have.

m.gophersports.com/m/genrel/041315aaa.htmlThe awards keep rolling in for Paige! She was named "Breakthrough Female Athlete of the Year" last night at the Golden Goldy's. Well deserved, in my opinion. I have to say, I really like the choice of Amanda Zahui for female athlete of the year. Wonder what kind of a block she could put up at a volleyball net?

I gotta' think that award would have been Amanda's until she decided to fly the coop for the high paying WNBA...

Not the high paying WNBA, but the possible salary that clubs would offer overseas. Same goes for Jewell Loyd.

Maybe Hayden will end up with the Gophers yet?

Maybe Hayden will end up with the Gophers yet? Do you want her to? And if she does what position? I just don't see it...I look at her as having top D2 coaches drooling over her. Maybe D1 in the Missouri Valley or the Summit but nothing higher...

I don't see where Hayden and Carlson fill the same role, either.
I am confident Minnesota knows what they are doing.

Seems like they're going to need another good middle besides Pittman.
