I don't know why you can't just say "Hilley is very good as a sophomore" or "Hilley has great potential." I don't know why you feel it's necessary to compare a 15 year old kid to one of the best setters to ever play collegiate volleyball. It just seems unfair because Hilley never asked for that comparison. Instead of talking about the things that make her great, you're inviting people to pick out her weaknesses. Just seems unnecessary. For the record, and I'm not a huge Shook fan, but I think Shook is, far and away, the better prospect as a setter comparing where they both are at this point in their respective careers and their relative potential. Hilley is good, but she's not the best in her class IMO, and is, certainly, no Carlini. I actually think Hilley has more potential down the road as an attacker. She kicked ass for her high school team on the left. Agree with not comparing them. Let Hilley be Hilley. Your comments about her hitting make me wonder whether we might run a 6-2 with Hilley playing 6 rotations and Hannah subbing for an Opp. It'll be interesting to see what develops. Watching Hilley hit, I've been thinking that this is a likely scenario. But these girls are so young yet...so much development ahead of them, and decisions like that also depend on how the rest of the players develop. It will be interesting at the very least. Has Sheff ever run a 6-2 anywhere else?

Did I mention Kadie? I do not think there was true TEAM chemistry on NE. It did not appear like anyone other than your libero enjoyed playing, enjoyed competition and thrived when there was adversity. Coach Cook didn't help. Lots of reasons, Kadie included. Mary's setting didn't help. Apparent (and I think admitted) lack of effort on Haggerty's part didn't help. Kadie's eye rolls did not help, and if I saw the so did her teammates. You're welcome to your opinions, but there are a lot on my side who observed the less than tangible lack of chemistry. Some of my observations, and there are more, are an attempt to make it tangible. Go to the Nebraska thread, where this conversation is more relevant. I'm familiar with the threads. I think it was a fact that chemistry was lacking. The debate was around cause.

Badger fans are looking through Sheffield-colored glasses in my opinion. I think Morgan will become a quality Big Ten player, but nothing about this video makes me run out and buy Badger season-tickets. Have you not learned anything from the past two years? I have, and it's that Carlini makes good players great. Period. Morgan is a top 15 player in her class AND she has a likely future olympic team member setting her. Do you really think Nelson is an amazing middle hitter? She hit for a very high percentage solely because Carlini got her solo attempts on nearly every ball. Morgan is further along NOW offensively than Haleigh was her freshman year. Nay-say all you like, but you will see what Carlini can do with an arsenal of decent to good hitters, assuming we have some passing. What is nay-saying about my post. I believe Morgan will be a quality Big Ten middle. That is pretty high praise for an athlete who has missed most of the past year of volleyball. The video did not impress me more than what I already knew about the 6'5 middle-hitter. You are 100% right, Carlini is making players better. How many years will Morgan actually see sets from Carlini?

Dennis Punzel is the most valuable Twitter follow I have for Badger VB right now. He retweeted this...

At what point does she become structurally unstable? And at this point, does she have to jump?

Granted I have only been following the game & Badgers for a couple years since the kids took up club volleyball & became big fans, but I have minimal expectations for the 2015 season. Al McGuire's musing about "the best thing about Freshmen is they become Sophomores" is going to come into play with a roster so dependent on contributions from new faces.
Even the best freshmen hit a bit of a wall as classes and the jump up in intensity over HS & club take a toll. I'll be interested in LC's leadership and patience with the younger teammates and the inevitable miscues that are going to happen with inexperience. So far she has been the young phenom surrounded by experienced talent. You couple the youth with a wasted spring of no matches & practices that I can't imagine are very productive (how many 3 on 3 drills can you run?) and a league that is getting nothing but better across the board... I just see a bumpy ride ahead.

No way Carlini allows the Badgers to slide. LC is finest leader I have seen in the Big Ten in over ten years. Plus, Morey will be a great second in command. Top three finish for UW!

Arguably the best setter and the best libero in the country. Two positions that touch a lot of balls for Wisconsin. Pretty good place to be in considering they graduated/lost more than half the team. I think they'll be very good.

I don't understand the comment.
