Well, we fell behind in our race to PSU thread pages. What else is new? Practice started yesterday. Romana with no knee brace and dressed; I don't see everyone, but I think it's only 7, correct? And I thought it might be a decent B1G thread... Bates looks like a baby next to X-Factor Romana. Can freshman move to Madison and start practicing as soon as they graduate in May/June or is there like a first day for athletes-after-UW-school-year-ends type of thing?

I think they can come in the summer (July) and do "informal" strength training. Someone else can pipe in.
Romana may be bigger, but she doesn't look like she has the muscle definition in the legs compared to Bates at the moment, which would make sense given her injury. I think Romana is 6'3 versus 5'11 so that would make sense.

Bates came up last summer for a spell, for strength training and captain's practices. There are NCAA rules regarding when the scholarship and funding can kick in, but I believe Bates took a class. Not a bad idea to start by taking a class in the summer. Ease in to college with the smaller class sizes.

I am sure Wisconsin is like all the other top programs and big conferences with player coming in for second summer sessions and taking one or two classes and having non-supervised practices / strength & conditioning everyday until official start of practice for fall.

But Romana is the only one without knee guards, which suggests she isn't on the floor yet. Probably still doing strength training/rehab.

So, if at all possible to compare--is Kriskova at RS (and 100% healthy) more, less, or equally as effective as Thomas? Yes, I get that Thomas had a rare skill set and we won't know until the season starts, but Kriskova is a six-rotation player, no? She also seems to be a decent blocker, is athletic, and now has the luxury of being set by this Laura Carleenie girl. I'm wondering if Fric will get chances to shine at RS, too. Maybe Saunders redshirts if Kriskova is healthy?

I remember reading in a Punzel article that Romana isn't likely to be cleared for full practice until summer.

Just in a rush and I could not bring up the right phrase from the attic of my mind filled with all those random piles of sports equipment. I figured you'd all understand. Guess I'm distracted a bit here by real life.

Maybe Saunders redshirts if Kriskova is healthy? Kriskova isn't as fine-tuned as Thomas, but 100% healthy she could be a step below. I think the big word in this comparison would be "intangibles". Thomas not only had skills but she had IQ and that showed in her play. Kriskova so far in her career has been a one-man gang at OH in a lower conference. Hard to say how she will handle the bigger/tougher/physical everything of the Big Ten.

Has there been any thought to looking at Tionna Williams on the RS? She seems boxed in as a middle with Nelson and Morgan there for a couple years.

I think it's Morgan that's boxed in, at least in the short term. Although I would agree Williams could play from that side...along with about 3 others. I would sure like some injury insurance at that spot....

Yippeee! So glad I was wrong! I imagine she is really raring to go. I'm just hoping that she doesn't move to quickly in her recovery, so she can be certain to play as much as she wants this year.
On another note...Do they read these threads? That's uncanny timing.

On another note...Do they read these threads? That's uncanny timing. I'm sure someone is reading them (Dennis Punzel??). Probably the parents. In another timing coincidence, a few days after the "where's Juley" inquiry regarding a picture, a uwbadgers story came out saying she could no longer play. Being the pessimist I am, I am little worried that many are banking heavily on Kriskova. Has anyone ever come back 100% from knee surgery? But I would agree with the Big Ten thread - I'd like to see what Fricano is capable of. So, Dennis, if you are reading, why is the only story on the fall pre-conference schedule from your article, and not on uwbadgers.com? Is it not official? Can you do a story on what exactly they are doing in spring practice with 7 players? After all, WSJ covers football spring practice...
