Cook was quoted saying that if he landed Lauren Stivrins, he wouldn’t go after another MB in the 2016 class. As much as Fitzmorris’ presence would be a welcome at Nebraska, I think we’re set at MBs in the near future: 2016: Briana & Lauren 2017: Briana & Lauren - Chesney will likely redshirt 2018: Lauren & Chesney 2019: Lauren & Chesney 2020: Chesney & … 2021: Chesney & … What makes you think Chesney will likely redshirt? Ikr, it was really difficult typing that. LOL Your objection is certainly justified, given that Chesney is touted to be Nebraska's biggest recruit since Sarah Pavan, and some people have even said she’s destined for Team USA. But here’s how I arrived at my conclusion: Briana is an obvious starter in 2016 and 2017. Her counterpart will likely be Stivrins, who is said to be a top-3 recruit in her class. I’m part of the school that believes Foecke will be on the right, opening up a middle position for Lauren in 2016. Stivrins will then have a year’s experience under her belt when Chesney matriculates, which could give her the edge to continue starting in 2017. In an ideal world, I’d love to see Holman be allowed to play this year. It would give Bri the opportunity to be one year closer to graduating and going pro, and there wouldn’t be the possible dilemma of having to bench either Lauren or Chesney in 2017.

I heard that Tianni has incredible potential to do great things, so I’m excited to see how she performs at the next level in college. However, after hearing that Molly Haggerty is injured, it may be best to get some other solid options on the pins like USC or PSU. (Nothing that a big-time transfer or two couldn't fix!) Cook is working on '17 OHs. Tiani will stay in the middle. Don't sleep on Allick at OH (she's moving outside in college), she can absolutely jump out of the gym. She needs to prove she can pass at this level though. Re: Molly Haggerty, a torn meniscus isn't a major injury for a VB player. It'll lead to early osteoarthritis, but it won't hinder her playing ability once recovered. It's more of a problem for athletes that need to make frequently violent changes in direction.

One thing is certain: Nebraska will finally get back to its tradition of having some of the nation’s top middles. It seems the trend started to fade once we lost Elmer and Stalls. With the exception of Delano, we have yet to see a Nebraska middle earn AA honors over the past eight years.
Now we have a First-Team AA, the top ranked MB in 2015, two of the best MBs in 2016, and Chesney in 2017. The future couldn't look brighter for Nebraska's middles!

Thanks for the info on Haggerty’s injury; I hope she has a speedy and sound recovery! I thought I read somewhere that Tiani will be moving to the OH once in college? TBH I would like to see a return of the all-around OH at Nebraska. Saleaumua, Houghtelling, Larson, Mueller, Werth and Mancuso were some of my favorite players because they could do EVERYTHING at an AA level by the time they graduated. Jason, what do you think Allick will be ranked coming out of HS?

There is an 8th grader in North Texas that is already being recruited by all the top programs. I saw a tournament a couple weeks ago and all the top college coaches (mostly assistants) were there watching her matches. She is an OH, but I could see her becoming a middle as well because she is not only terminal, but has natural blocking instincts. I could see her as a 2019 jewel for Texas or Nebraska.
The reason I say Nebraska is because they will probably be the top program closest in location to the state of Texas. For this reason I can see some of the top players in Texas start to consider Nebraska as a serious choice to play volleyball, compete in a top 2 conference, and have opportunity to play for NCAA Championships.

I’d love more than anything to see Nebraska get some top Texas talent, whether it’s a prep recruit or high-profile transfer…

I know a couple B1G coaches are still contacting her to make a switch. She's raw but the physical talent is there in spades. Still growing, touches 10'5" off her vertical, and really quick feet. If she can perform at UNL, she'LL be a star due to her looks. She'll get fanfare like Barbie did at Stanford (obviously Cynthia was more polished coming into college).

Is it common for a coach to actively pursue someone who has made a verbal, or do most coaches back off after that?

It's becoming more common that coaches keep in contact with committed recruits just in case. VB recruiting is becoming more cutthroat like football. Jobs are on the line and salaries are growing in the power conferences. If you want to keep your job you need talent. All is fair in love and recruiting wars.

Absolutely........it happens occasionally. Last I remember was Chiaka Ogbogu who committed to Cal and then her Senior year right before club season Texas had a scholarship available and switched her commit. That hurt Cal.

Yeah that hurt Cal pretty bad. I hope volleyball doesn't turn to be like football with constant flipping of commits. It just causes so many problems!

Huskers pick-up a verbal tonight from Alex Ratzlaff - Class of 2016 - 5'10" OH from Hillsboro, KS. My first thought was that she might be a bit short to be an OH, but after watching her play, that girl has really got some moves. She looks like she could play the entire back court by her self!! AND, there are some impressive 5' 10''OH's in the Big 10. What she may lack in height she makes up with her jump. Its nice to see all this talent heading to Husker land. I watched Ratzlaff and DANG! the girl can jump! Her 5’10” stature shouldn’t discourage her too much, because there are handfuls of top pin hitters internationally that are under 6-feet tall: 5’9”Lucia Bosetti Yukiko Ebata Anu Ennok Francesca Marcon Katarzyna Mroczkowska Saori Sakoda 5’10”Sanja Bursac Fe Garay Lisa Izquierdo Anna Werblinska 5’11”Aurea Cruz Antonella Del Core Maret Grothues
