I have no real rooting interest in the national championship based on teams and conferences I like. And I have nothing against Penn State. They have an amazing volleyball program. But I admit I'm going for BYU. Why? Probably the underdog/Cinderella aspect mostly. Partly because PSU has won it so many times already. And partly because it'd be nice to see someone other than the same ten or so teams win the thing! Not reasons that will make me a lifelong Cougar fan, but at least through the end of the match!
I know what actual fans of each side think! I was just curious how widespread BYU's support might be among other Volleytalkers whose teams are already out and if it's for similar reasons. Or is VT going with the traditional powerhouse? Tell us if you're going to root for Penn State and why.

Rooting against a team in sports because they won it so many times is overrated. Both PSU and Stanford were playing for their 7th shot at a NC. That must have been so troubling for folks of this mindset. Secretly I am happy see BYU in the Finals....but not to win.

I wait to see who wins and then I watch the replay and that is the team I root for......that way I am never disappointed.

If I don't have an emotional attachment to one team or the other then I'm interested in the process more than the outcome. I love to see a sport played really well or a player or team who maybe lacking in talent displays "grit" and determination and rises above what us armchair pundits thought they could do. I just sit back and marvel at the year after year excellence of [for example] Stanford VB in the 90's, UNC women's soccer, UConn women's b'ball etc. Watching players and teams play a "beautiful game" is inspiring and aesthetically pleasing. I just don't get it when people say they "hate" so and so because they are excellent in what they do. I sure hope they don't "hate" and wish for failure in physicians or engineers or teachers.

With my teams out and having already seen PSU win it several times already it'd be more interesting to me to see another team win. That's really the gist of it.

BYU has a taller team than PSU and are even playing a little closer to their school, so I think PSU could actually be the underdog if they didn't have their legendary coach. I want to congratulate BYU on their wonderful season and I rooted for the Cougars against Texas. It would be amazing if they could pull off one more victory. I have never seen a VB coach as clever and crafty as Russ Rose. He finds ways to exploit other teams that go beyond explanation. He makes experienced players look like they are just learning the game. So let's hope BYU plays their best and we have a match worthy of the Championship.

I'm rooting for BYU. I don't have anything against PSU, every year I am amazed at how Rose can develop and prepare his team by season end. But the BYU Kool-Aid taste really good and I think the story of an unseeded team getting to the finals, winning, and winning against last years champs who is also a dynasty in the sport......just sounds like a great story to me.

I'm pulling for BYU because I would like to see a team win who is from a smaller, non-football conference.

6 of one, half a dozen of another. I want PSU cuz' they're conference mates & we split our home & home with them. I want BYU cuz' A) They are the team which knocked us out of the tournament. B) They've been on the outside looking in and someone NEW is good for the sport. Also I'm liking how Cinderella traded in the glass slippers for full combat gear including combat boots.
Bottom line: I'll be happy either way cuz' I'll be treated to some dynamite VB tonight. I hope this final goes to a nail-biting 5 sets.
