OSU/UO: an incredibly fun match to watch.

Think Nun and Bacon should transfer to Hawaii or BYU next year. Are they Mormon?

Welp, that OSU player Brown just tore her ACL. Brown or Browne? OSU seems to have one of each on their roster. I'm not watching, but I've seen ACL tears happen and I know what they look like. I assume that's how you made your diagnosis? OSU has a Brown, Browne and a Max-Brown, what are the odds of that?

A lot of people didn't care to know that Oregon State had a few starters out during their losses the last few weeks. They are an experienced team and they are good. PAC has a lot of depth. Sure, Oregon didn't play that well in some aspects...but OSU played A LOT better than what many thought the #12 team in the PAC would do. I was very impressed with the OSU setter and Bennett. I know OSU beat Washington in a scrimmage last spring too. The PAC is going to be very interesting this year! But I do hope Oregon pulls it together soon. A lot of talent but needs to gel. They seem to get so tight in those close sets. Gotta find a way to finish.

Ronika had only 17 attempts in 5 sets for 8 kills... yikes.

The connection with the middles is not there and it’s not the passing AGREE.

Makenna Brown a DS.. and yeah they showed a replay, and her knee just buckled when she landed then went limp and she fell to the ground clutching it, shrieking in pain.

Was at the game. It was very up and down, as most people can see. OSU is a lot better than people give them credit for. BUT.... this easily still should have and could have gone Oregon's way.
Now, you can tell this Oregon team is all over the place right from the warm ups. Majority of serves went straight to the net, a lot of hits were in the bottom of the net. Just not very disciplined at all. And it got even worse, the warm ups the setters were setting to the crowd, the tv monitors, knocking people over. The student managers seemed extremely lazy and stuck up, barely trying to block the ball from it hitting into people's bodies or equipment. And when they were doing service warm ups, the managers realized no one was collecting balls, and then just pushed all the carts towards the other end. It was hitting ball boys, people in the band, people crossing. It was a hot mess before the match even started. Hot mess.
As far as the match goes, this should have been a sweep in Oregon's favor. By far the better team. But by far the lowest IQ on the court. Johnson was back, but Kylie I think was either told, or has it in her head that 95% of the sets need to go to Johnson, no matter how out of place she is or how bad the pass is, or how well the defense is built on her side. It seems going to Stone was the absolute last case scenario. And when she did go to her middles it was all over of the place, there is ZERO chemistry or connection.
I think the biggest takeaway really is, that these freshman from Oregon are just NOT ready. Not ready at all to play in a high level. BVS, JoRass and Tastad should have stayed. They would have seen playing time and been regulars.

I didn't see it happen the first time but they panned the camera to the coaches after but you could still hear her crying. Watched the replay and it was sad to see. Very rare that a DS/L tears their ACL after jumping to cover a ball. Prayers go out to her.

Not a fan of the blame game. Expectations were set so high for a team with returners filling 6 1/2-7 of the 36 positions (6 rotations x 6 players) the same way they did last year. I can’t imagine any other team has so much change. Looks like failure when they were set up that way. Let them continue to learn and give them our support.

Was just looking at Oregon's schedule... and the path to .500 is going to be really tough, that's assuming their RPI is going to place them in the conversation. They have Utah(H), Stanford(H), Cal(H), Washington(A) and WSU(A) as their next 5 opponents.
Hoping for a turnaround for them.

Well at this point there's really no one player to really key in now. Like I said seeing them up close, the team is just NOT ready for the Pac-12.
So all these classes of great recruits and rankings, and none of them looked as good or skilled as Hailey Bennett from last night, who is from a small town community next to Corvallis.
Oregon this year is definitely proving the saying that hard work beats LAZY talent.

You're party to the innerworkings of the program enough to call them lazy? Come on, people. Rankings and recruiting ratings are a guess and being good on paper doesn't always translate to the court. But to call them lazy is disingenuous, at best. The program has been through a lot in the last few years. I have no doubt they will be fine. The Monday-morning Quarterbacking by a bunch of people who have likely never been more than mediocre at anything in their lives while taking pot-shots at athletes competing at the highest level here in the states is just downright obnoxious. Be critical of play, decisions, etc. But I'd refrain from making value judgements about work ethic of the athletes on the court. It just makes you look stupid.

Look at you coming in here all mighty. No amount of bickering from you OR me is going to change their win loss record or level of play right now. It's up to them.

I don’t know that’s it’s fair to say that any of these kids are lazy. But as an earlier poster said the expectations were probably set unreasonably high with a pre-season top 10 ranking that of course did not account for the borup/Johnson injuries (Hansen and Laita also out right now so even depth on the bench limits coaching options). Rough start but still played competitively with some of the top teams in the nation like penn state and Pitt. They just seem to lack confidence in themselves and each other in tight sets and I hope that resolves as the season goes on. As a coach I know once said “champions are born from adversity.”
