I think you boxed yourself in when you based your entire faith in everything Karch does on a gesture he made and his success viewed from afar. It's reasonable to give him the benefit of the doubt and to still admire him even as the mere mortal that he is, but to have no doubt and to overlook obvious contradictions to your conclusions seems a bit overboard and intransigent. I don't care volley. Its my opinion and obviously USA volleyball has faith so its water under the bridge. Move on with your lives.

(at 59:00) Watch after he pulls the net down, Karch is not apologetic, or "Ohmigod I didnt mean to do that, he walks around cursing) I never saw the "Classics" interview on this match before. Start at 55:00 on the touch call on Karch and Stokie says in the interview he heard the touch right after Karch said he didn't. Gotta love Stokie for the needle and Karch's face turns bright red, he can't even handle a friendly joke!

Never seen evidence? Ok here is some (at 59:00) Watch after he pulls the net down, Karch is not apologetic, or "Ohmigod I didnt mean to do that, he walks around cursing) (41:10 and elsewhere) Steffes also cited Kiraly trying to intimidate referees. In addition the idea that Karch was a tireless promoter of the sport simply isnt true. Sinjin was. Here is another Steffes quote about Karch: "And just another FYI, after I would win a tournament, my partner would bail immediately after the final point in order to get to the airport and I would have to do the post game interview, media and the awards ceremony by myself "Hey Cleveland, you guys are the best fans!" (FYI all the fans at every city were great). The AVP had to make a rule that the winning team was required to stay after to do the media and the awards ceremony. You would think that would be obvious to an athlete." wowowowow that is a side of Karch I've never seen. Destinee can be sarcastic and immature sometimes, but Karch is straight up scary... This makes me feel like the Destinee/Karch feud is on a personal level, or else why wouldn't he be more empathetic of Destinee? It's not fair to Destinee, it's not fair to USA Volleyball fans, and it's not fair to the sport of volleyball. Destinee is the most entertaining player in the world!!! LOL. Just stop please.

Just throwing this out there: the discussion seems to be centered around Karch and Hooker. Based on some comments by NT members I've read over the last year or so, I would infer that many of the other important U.S. players also don't want Hooker on the team. Though I will say, talentwise, if everyone can get over their differences, USA with Hooker, Jordan, Harmotto, and Akin (and Hill for that matter) right now would be almost unstoppable. What comments? Where did you read them? What important players? You're not serious.... Do you not remember Destinee going on Twitter and basically bashing her U.S. teammates? She got in trouble for it, and her teammates sure as hell didn't like it. She's gone publicly and talked about her teammates negatively and you think that they took it well? Not to mention the problems she's had in Europe. She's had issues almost everywhere she's played. Please, she's done so much stuff to earn every single criticism there is about her. If her teammates really wanted her back, they'd fight for her to come back, or at least express it publicly. No one has, which leads to think that nobody wants her back. I'm sure Karch's reason for kicking her off the team was more than just his "ego" and "insecurities." For him to exclude a player like that, she had to have been such a problem. I'm pretty sure the players themselves complained about Hooker. No matter how good a player is, if the team doesn't want her, then maybe it's best the way it is. Team U.S.A. already has talent developing, and still has more talent coming in.

Wow, just watched the youtube clips of Karch as a player and man has he come a long way. Karch as a coach is a completely different person -almost unrecognizable in comparison to when he was a player. Kind of interesting. Growing older and wiser really does make a difference. Can you imagine Karch as a player coaching the current USA volleyball team, especially during their dismal World grand prix results the past 2 years? There would've been so much crying. Almost makes me respect him more as a person and coach for being so calm during time-outs when all that competitiveness and fieriness is lurking within.

Also, I think she was a much bigger fan of Hodge over Larson being the 2nd starting OH. There was a tweet about how only she (Hooker) and Megan were "unstoppable."

Gotta love Stokie for the needle and Karch's face turns bright red, he can't even handle a friendly joke! There are always going to be challenging / difficult players - that is not unusual with high level talented players. The great coaches know how to handle these players.
It is not the 1960's when John Wooden could lay down the law and tell his players your hair will be this length or get out. Ask Bill Walton. This is not the Bobby Knight era when he could beat down players because of his winning tradition. Heck, ESPN just let Knight go / did not renew his contract after his meltdown during a basketball telecast where he was yelling for a fan to sit down during the broadcast.
I watched a good interview with Duke's Mike Krzyzewski during the season about how he has changed his coaching style over the years and specifically during the one and done era. Yes, there was a time when even the most talented Duke players stayed their 4 years at Duke. Here is a good article I found about Krzyzewski.Players, colleagues praise Mike Krzyzewski's ability to connect, adapt, winNate James, the Duke assistant who played for the Blue Devils from 1997 to 2001, said what impresses him most is Krzyzewski's ability to adapt to what he has personnel-wise and consistently push the right buttons with different types of teams to motivate them.
"There's not just one way," James said. "Some coaches are stuck in their ways, like 'I want to do it this way, the way I've always done it.' No. If you do it that way, it may hurt this group. He adjusts."Regarding Karch, it looks like he has the support of his bosses, so he can do what he wants, but he better win with his style and coaching ability. He better get to the gold medal game. And if he coaches the team to a gold medal, he will be hailed by all and the Destinee detractors can gloat for infinity! But if the team falls short / disappoints and there is an belief he did not have the most talented players on his team, he will be back to being a tv announcer and whatever else he does.

Is he wiser? We'll see in a couple of summers.

Playing at Brasil... I think people no matter who is on the team need to be prepared for losing as a possibility. They turned it on and destroyed us after set 1 in London...even with Hooker. She was relegated to having no meaning after the first set along with everyone else because of how outplayed and outmatched they became. I'll never forget Davis moving forward and Sheilia tipping over her head to deep left back where no one was... it summed up the match almost. But there are also many other talented teams out there besides USA and Brasil, depends who else is in our group as well what happens.
