When did Karch show up at a juniors tournament to sign autographs? Looks like time has been kind to the man... Or maybe you're just a little quick to judge Destinee Karch sent me not only his autograph but two letters when I was trying to break into playing competitive ball. He was playing for US Volleyball at the time and at the height of his career and I was a nobody. I thought it was incredibly classy despite his schedule. This is the crux of your position, but also completely off. You give credit to Karch for taking interest in growing the game. Guess what? Destinee does the same thing and has inspired hundreds of young girls through her accessibility and outreach. You're saying Karch's poor behavior is dismissed because he reached out to you, denying the fact (not even possibility) that Destinee has done the same, when whatever "attitude" you say she has is nowhere near as bad as Karch's. Karch was an A-grade jerk on the court and not anyone you would want serving as your "ambassador" of the sport. Your refusal to acknowledge that speaks volumes. But thank god Karch wasn't coaching the team back then because we wouldn't have won any golds if he were kicked off the team.

It was an example of his determination and character toward fans. I am sure he sent dozens of those each day out to volleyball wannabe's like I was at the time. What did he have to gain by this? Nothing. Why is it so difficult for you people to read between the lines? If a guy in his prime is willing to do this for the betterment of the sport, when its really no benefit whatsoever to him, that tells me alot about his love of the sport and his character. Are you finally getting my drift ? Grade A jerk on the court? I watched several USA games and never saw any evidence of that but I sure saw attitude and ego in Destinee when she played. Waste time on someone else with this sorry argument. Destinee an example to young girls? Just because you are incredible at your sport does not make you an example. That requires other things like sportsmanship, getting along with teammates, work ethic, and respect.

Just throwing this out there: the discussion seems to be centered around Karch and Hooker. Based on some comments by NT members I've read over the last year or so, I would infer that many of the other important U.S. players also don't want Hooker on the team. Though I will say, talentwise, if everyone can get over their differences, USA with Hooker, Jordan, Harmotto, and Akin (and Hill for that matter) right now would be almost unstoppable. Gee....I wonder why that is?

Not undying loyalty but absolutely my respect. He deserves that and has earned it. I bet you have some coaches in high school that you respect. I bet you have some players you played with that you probably do not care to ever see again. We all do. You mean Karch sent that letter in the eighties because he sensed in 2015 that he would be under fire by a bunch of fools on Volleytalk? That manipulative bastard. ........Do you see how dumb that sounds volley?

Any public comments by National Team players that I've seen have made ambiguous allusions to the issue of team chemistry, and it may very well be so. But what would you reasonably expect the remaining players, who are interested in staying with the team, to say (assuming the need to say anything at all) when the most skilled and successful player and the most physically talented player have been excluded from the team? That isn't to say that Karch should do nothing. It's the job of any head coach to manage those issues, but the best coaches recognize the need to balance individual player's own strengths and weaknesses with the over-all strength of the team. Beale certainly did that with Karch when he was a player.

Not to stir the pot or anything, But I've noticed that the USA web site hardly mentions her (DH) anymore., Also they still mention other past Olympians...

I think the USA team has a lot of talent, but we will be playing against Brazil in Brazil. I think if they can work their issues out, having Destinee on the team is only a win-win. People say that the USA won the World Championship without her, but to be quite honest, the USA team was not playing at the same level throughout the World Championship as they were playing from 2010-2012. Also, the Italians won the last World Championship and did they medal in the Olympics? No, they did not.

I think they only mention people who are currently on the National Team. If Logan Tom weren't playing with Faucette, she may very well be excluded from the weekly national updates. They normally list the names of the players on the USA national team in bold, and in the summary, they mention other USA players, but these names aren't bolded (e.g. Eckerman in Robinson's updates since they're on the same team, Micah Hancock & Willoughby when they recently played against Robinson's PR team). They mentioned Destinee Hooker a couple of times in Nicole Fawcett's summary when her team played against Hooker's.

One doesn't simply engender loyalty for a specific thing in the future, but for whatever may come. That's basic public relations.

They don't need Hooker to win the gold medal in Rio. The team is beginning to take shape now. Remember, it took Hugh roughly 1.5 or 2 yrs to build the team into #1 team. The current team is doing fine w/o Hooker.
Teams usually win w/o a cancer. Look at the Russians . The Russians are big , tall and powerful but they are not a team. They are fractured but the coach can't make changes
My fav baseball team won 3 WS rings w/o the biggest cancer ever, Mt Barry Bonds. Bonds was a great great player but he ain't a team player. He is for himself. If Bonds was a team player, he would do what other players did like exercising, warming up or taking team pictures.
Forget Hooker because she is goner. If other players don't stand up for her, you know she is a problem child. Btw, Karch would be fired in a new york minute if other players file protest with Doug Beal but they have not and never will. Players can get coaches fired and they know it. Tom Sermanni of USWNT got fired when the players complained to US Soccer Federation.
New players are coming in. The pool is looking good.
