A questionable move. I thought April had asked Jen F. to play some matches with her? Did that not pan out?
Summer Ross hanging out back in SoCal might have been a better choice than Whit who just has not been in the mix lately, imho. Love Whit passion on defense though, but I thought April was a defender so what do I know.
Lauren & Brooke have some work cut out for them too.
For the sake of Team USA lets hope some things shake out soon or the likes of players like Paven will bring home a podium finish in 2016.
Does the management team at USAV beach have to answer to such poor results across the board in a pre Olympic year, or are the players on their own still with regard to forming partnerships?

April apparently isn't interested in Summer as a partner, since she (April) went after Fopma. A couple of issues kept that from happening. Summer and Lane Carico are going to partner up shortly, and Fopma is going to play with Hochevar. All this assuming Walsh is on track to come back for the world championships (and after). Also assuming no more drama on the women's side, which isn't a certain bet.

Fopma & Hochevar will bring some emotion to the table.
If Summer accepts her role as a blocker or a sometimes split blocker, I like her and Lane. I have been saying that for two years.

I don't think they will do well. Lane and summer.
What about fopma and Nicole today looking solid. Lost to a really good Brazil team but beat the other team pretty good

I think half of Socal has been wondering why Summer and Lane waited this long. I think they have the ability and potential to be a top team, but they need to put the training time in, be patient as they learn each other's games, and hiring a strong coach would be a very good idea.

I think outside of Walsh (when she's healthy) and Ross, this current crop of women on hte US side are about done. I don't see Lauren and Brooke ever making noise on the FIVB. They just aren't very good in comparison to the world, and they have been the 2ND bestp US team, likely along with Kessy and Day now who have had mixed results at best. Hopefully Walsh can stay in tact for another year because they look to be US's only hope for the Olympic run, maybe even including the men.

Random thoughts about Thursday in St. Pete: Hot as heck, but actually feels 10 degrees cooler when the cloud cover comes and the breeze off the water kicks in! Weird set-up with vendor booths aplenty but only one crappy food concession (and I mean crappy - lemonade with no lemon, hot dogs and hamburgers, and little else) and almost impossible to buy a cold water or a soda with some ice. Hope that changes for tomorrow and the weekend. FIVB apparently making tons of demands and expecting the AVP to jump at their every whim. Jeez, just let Donald Sun and company do their thing!!! Almost unbearable in stadium court when the sun is out - hard to watch for more than 10-15 minutes at a time with no air flow and pure direct sun. Apparently lots of saline tabs being handed out by the very professional and helpful medical staff, and did not hear of many players having to quit because of the heat/humidity. Doherty looked to not be handling the heat well, but they pulled through in a tough 3-setter in pool play. Match of the day (to me, so who cares - ha!) was Menegatti/Toth v Canadians Humana-Paredes/Pischke - went to 16-14 in the 3rd, but the Canadians were awesome - Menegatti never smiled once and must be really tough for Toth to play with!!! Coolest moment (in more ways than one) - Kessy/Day down like 10-6 after squeaking out the first set against Ludwig/Walkenhorst (man, is Ludwig ever fun to watch!!!) on Stadium Court in the late afternoon - the wind really kicks up and the skies darken so much that the totally annoying and overly bright lights behind the rotating advertising displays on the sidelines make it almost impossible to see!!! Jen seems to be saying "screw this - I'm not playing until you turn off those bright lights (it truly got so dark that it was really distracting - who knew thos things even had lights???), so finally Donald Sun and company get them turned off! The skies lighten, the wind lets up, and they go on to win in 3!!! The Brazilians are just plain tough, especially the women - Maria Clara serving awesome - Larissa/Talita making it all look so easy, Emanuel Rego still playing like he is 25 at age 42. Honored to finally get up the nerve to talk with him a bit, and told him we have been watching him since he played AVP a little with Jose Loiola way back when - what a nice guy! Mike Dodd wandering around as always - reminded him of the great comeback against Karch/Kent in Seal Beach years ago, and that made him smile! He is still coaching Rosie (and Slick) - Rosie, however, looked like he was simply mailing it in at this point - kinda sad to watch. They hope to have Phil back by Rome, but its a different ab muscle than he hurt last year, so who knows? Pavlik also looking just plain off - lots of mistakes and just unable to side out, especially when really needed. Bansley/Pavan looking great - who on earth is coaching up the Canadians? Both men's and women's teams have, in my humble opinion, improved more than any other country! Lupo and Ricardo going at it about who knows what - that ref was a saint for not at least yellow carding both of them. Lots of loose calls on handsets as always - are they told to let more stuff go when the wind is a bigger factor? Overall, a great day here in St. Pete - lets hope some of our US teams can break out of their apparent slumps and get a few medals!!!

I think they have the ability and potential to be a top team, but they need to put the training time in, be patient as they learn each other's games, and hiring a strong coach would be a very good idea. I think that team has a couple of very complimentary pieces (Summer's footspeed mitigated by Lane's speed, Lane's smaller hitting window and Summer's hands) but its hard to see them growing into one of the best teams in the world. I havent seen Summer much this year and in the few clips she did look improved, but I just don't see her as the athlete some of her competitors are. I probably brought this up before but I think Canyon Ceman is a good comparison. Solid skills, great hands, athletically limited. Difference is Summer doesnt have Canyon's bionic arm. If Summer is a blocker, and I think she probably is, arent there 4-5 US blockers who are much better at the net? (Jen, Kerri, Lauren at least) And arent there also a bunch of other tall girls who she isnt much better than at the net? April, Kim, etc. So what is it she does that makes her better than them or what potential does she have that makes her seem like she will grow into a superior player. Similarly about Lane, I have seen a few matches this year and she really struggled to get the ball down. In one she failed to side out on good passes 7-8 times in a row. The other team wasnt making spectacular plays just ordinary digs and blocks. They have youth but right now I would take Kessy Day over them in almost every respect (Including Most Likely to Qualify for Rio)

Jeez, just let Donald Sun and company do their thing!!! If Donald Sun and the AVP could be competent in what they are doing, it might be a little different. They can't even figure out stream as good as the NVL for crying out loud.
