I don't think there's much incentive for Carambula/Ranghieri to play an AVP event. Not much prize money, no FIVB points (so the Italian federation won't give them any funding for travel etc), and long flights.
Carambula/Ranghieri have actually had a weird season. First tournament, a 17th - no big surprise, first time they've played together. Next tournament, a 3rd out of nowhere, followed up by...losing in the qualie. But after that 33rd place finish, they pull out a 4th at Gstaad (despite receiving a thorough beatdown by Jake/Casey in pool play), albeit with a fortunate draw. The next tournament (Yokohama) they can't get out of pool. Quite the roller coaster.
BTW, they're no longer listed for Long Beach.

They lost to Samoilovs/Smedins twice, but did beat Nicolai/Lupo, Doppler/Horst and Nummerdor/Varenhorst in the elimination rounds.

My thought was they show up a week early for Long Beach, make a little money (a little because its the AVP) If they arent playing Long Beach I dont know that it makes much sense. I havent seen the Italian 1 team play in a while. Probably at least a year and maybe longer. Who is the better player there? Is the little one regretting not switching to Ranghieri?

Its a sad world when the no. 1 US team is in danger of being overtaken by Canada. Sorry Cam New North American order? May want to get comfortable with the idea. Unlike the US, all of Canada's top teams are comprised of players 30 and under with the exception of Binstock. EDIT: For clarity - I'm including the women's teams. Starting at the Juniors level we probably have as many girls and women playing volleyball as they have girls and women in Canada. (Not playing volleyball total - slight exagg) Plus its really cold in most of that country. Men's is fine because we dont have that much participation, but if Canada overtakes us in women's volleyball then the entire staff of USAV should be let go.

Last season, Nicolai was Dalhausser with an Italian accent. He was named either MVP or Best Offensive Player of the World Tour (can't remember which), and could rightfully be considered one of the best players in the world. But in 2015 Lupo/Nicolai have been very ordinary. They missed a couple of tournaments earlier in the season, some injury issues perhaps? I really don't know - which makes it tough to make a call between him and Ranghieri right now.

Given that any chance of a Ranghieri/Nicolai pairing in the future?

Am I the only one who thinks Adrian needs to lose like 10 to 15 lbs, hit the gym, and actually chase some balls down? His skillset is phenomenal and he has great ball control but I can see his love handles through his baggy jersey and I rarely seem him chase balls down. He's either in the right place or not. But if not, play's over. Not being a hater. I really like the guy. But it seems he's falling short of his true potential.

He has 2 top 4 finishes this year in his rookie FIVB year. go to this link and check out who he's beaten. www.bvbinfo.com/player.asp?ID=8338&Page=4#2015FIVBHyden/Bourne twice Reinder Nummerdor / Christiaan Varenhors Emanuel Rego / Ricardo Santos Evandro Goncalves / Pedro Solberg Paolo Nicolai / Daniele Lupo Clemens Doppler / Alexander Horst

I'm one who is in fear of Canadian men overcoming the US men soon simply because I would love to watch the men over the women on any given day. I don't know everyone but for the women's side Canada definitely seems to have more talent than US. US has Summer Ross and Sarah Hughes, I think 2 of Canada's top 3 FIVB teams, 2 of the teams are 25 and under, and seem to have a better World ranking than all the US teams but Kerri and April. They also have Claes and the McNamara twins. Women in about 5 years could be very competitive between US and Canada depending on what US women can come up. The men's, scary scary thought. Both Nicolai and Ranghieri are blockers, but that doesn't mean 1 of them could try defense, or I have no idea if one of them could play defense or not.

Nevermind - for some reason I thought Claes was from Canada. That's cool. They will be a fun team to watch grow for USA coming up.

Given that any chance of a Ranghieri/Nicolai pairing in the future? I don't think so, Nicolai's partner Lupo has been playing very well lately, so i don't think they'll split, moreover because of of their playing style Ranghieri & Carambula fit very well together.
