Sinjin and Karch....synonomous with beach volleyball...case closed. I agree, but Sinjin is the only nickname there....Karch is his given name.

St. John is his middle name. Sinjin is the correct pronunciation of St. John when used as a name.

I agree, but Sinjin is the only nickname there....Karch is his given name. Sinjin is his middle name The nickname "Karch" is derived from the Hungarian word "Karcsi" (pronounced "KAR-chee"), which can be translated as "Charlie". It is a common derivative of Karoly, which is the Hungarian equivalent of "Charles". His last name, Kiraly, means "King" in Hungarian.
As for Sinjin, I got the the nickname information from a Volleyball Magazine way before the internet made us all scholars in the late 80s and remembered it. The story was that Andrew couldn't pronounce his name and it translated to Sinjin which stuck.....lucky for beach volleyball. I'll ask him someday at a Long Beach CBVA and see what he says. My bad......

I'm not a fan of Jake "Spiker" Gibb. Sounds like the nickname you give to the only kid who can hit on your freshmen team.
Tall Thin Beast was cool till it got overplayed in his first Olympic run.
