Aniah Philo-Hatfield has left the Univeristy of Louisville. Rumored to be going to Baylor.

She was late to commit - I wonder if it is a homesickness type thing? All Freshman ACC player - tough loss for the Cardinals. Good luck to her at Baylor - she's fun to watch.

If she couldn't qualify for SC, she will definitely not be able to get into CAL and UCSB. Those schools have higher academic standards. She should either try UH or LBSU. I didn't see where the article mentions Cal Berkeley. I would argue that USC is tougher to get into than UCSB (at least for non-athletes). I'm surprised that she'd try for USC anyhow. Wouldn't she automatically lose a season of eligibility by transferring w/in the Pac 12? Good luck to her wherever she lands. She's a gifted player. Sorry, but UCSB is much tougher to get into academically than USC. More people may apply to USC making it look tougher to get into, but the academic requirements are not the same. No way Shebby lasts a semester at UCSB if she couldn't make it at Oregon.

And yet the point remains, where in the heck is Frankie Shebby ending up?!
Bottom feeders really want to know.

Anybody know why Sydney Francis (La Costa Canyon High School) is no longer on the Oregon St roster? Libero, #10, would be a senior

An y yet the fact still does remain that IF mom and dad placed said silver spoons into one's mouth from birth, a small fortune could STILL be paid to ensure that the most novice of students gets in. I think of movies and dentistry when I think U$C. UC schools are generally difficult to make the grade. Cal and UCLA being foremost. San Diego, Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara too.
Funny!

Ok, the front page of this thread needs to be corrected regarding Toner. I checked last year's roster; Backland was a RS Junior last year.

I attended Cal and then transferred to USC. I'll admit that I used to have a false conception of SC. When i attended, I think the average SAT scores for incoming students were comparable to Cal. There are the rich kids, but there's lots of kids on scholarship and financial aid. Lots of int'l students. I thought it was pretty diverse.

If there's going to be a conversation purely about the relative academic quality of these schools, we should distinguish between admission standards (closely tied to overall academic ranking) and admission percentages (the fraction of applicants who are admitted).
The University of California schools are very, very solid academically, averaging within the top two percent in the country. They have a lower acceptance rate than many private schools like USC or Stanford because more kids are applying. Why is that? Because they are much better bargains for the local kids. As public schools, their tuition is relatively low, about $10K, I think, compared to more than $40K for Southern Cal (these are not current numbers, but I think I'm pretty close). So the California kids who get into UC schools are getting an equivalent education for a fraction of the cost. Many apply, relatively few get in.
That said, USC is routinely ranked higher academically than all but one of the UC schools - Cal routinely beats them out. USC and UCLA have been ranked almost identically at around 25th overall for many years. (And, sorry, but Hawaii is nowhere near the academic standards all the schools mentioned above.)
Of course, the best school is the one that fits a kid best, regardless of ratings, rankings and admissions standards. And as was mentioned earlier, the value of a given school is generally specific to your major: if you want a degree in cinema, go to USC, not Yale, MIT or Harvard, even though those schools are "ranked" higher.
And, no , I didn't go to a UC school.
