[b Took a break. Was following till USC got eliminated. They are my second team. Busy watching my warriors tear it up. Also I watched psu soccer team win championship lol. I think white will have that Libero position next year and I'm not convinced bryanna has that position locked up. Think there's chance demure could take it. A walk on is going to take a spot over two full scholarship players in a singular position? Indeed Boof is back in full force. Sometimes life is stranger than fiction but if Demure doesn't arrive at PSU until fall, she will be non-factor.

Penn State definitely needs someone like Courtney in the future; don't think they will have that for 2016. Not sure why you say this - I think they may already have "someone like Courtney" on their roster based on the fact that they won all the matches (with the exception of Northwestern, the match she went down) that she was out for the injury this year, plus both OSU matches where she was just back and "not 100%" according to Rose.

It seems like no one really has the tools to be an elite pin hitter and 6-rotation player on this team. Oft-injured players and those who have only occasionally shown anything aren't particularly promising to change that.

It looks like recruiting is not automatic for PSU any longer and haven't landed an elite 6-rotation pin hitter since Megan Courtney arrived 4 years ago. Now we need one and the cupboard is bare. Hopefully we can find a transfer who is can meet our needs.

I have been out of the country so just had a chance to catch up on my DVR. I watched the Under Armor AA match and saw only one PSU player - Kristin Krauss. What is her story? She was setting in the match, is she coming in as a setter? Lots of other B1G/Pac12 teams had big time players on the teams. It was a little sad to only see the Krauss girl representing PSU.

It appears that Russ Rose is determined to upgrade the libero and setter positions by bringing in more players to compete for these spots. As always the winners will be determined through competition on the practice court. The other Big Ten teams have had great success in recruiting and obviously have caught and surpassed PSU in volleyball play this past season.

Plus, she has an arsenal of shots. True, Frantti hit a Soph slump. But have we forgotten her splash freshman season?

I'm not sold on the fact that Frantti had a Soph slump b/c she had great matches against lesser teams. She would be more productive with a setter who can get her the ball quickly and accurately. She excelled when she didn't need an accurate set or when the other team was not serving and passing nails. Ali is not a natural 6-rotation player and beats herself up trying to play defense diving for balls. In other words I don't think her slump was all her fault - it reminds me of trying to put a square peg into a round hole. However, since PSU has no other 6-rotation hitter Frantti will be probably asked to play all-around again next year. I would love to be wrong and have Ali Frantti have a great year.

This video seems oddly familiar, like something that I saw Sheffield say back in September, may just be imagining it though. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery some say

Several other Big 10 teams seem to have recruited phenomenally well in the last few years. While we've brought in some good players, and arguably last year's NFOY is one (but who also had a really poor sophomore year...), they don't seem to be the big difference-makers that other teams have had. I look around the conference and see a lot of really good freshman and sophomore difference-makers. I don't see that with our roster now, nor do I see it coming up with anyone unless Kendall White is *really* good.

I would ease up about Kendall White a bit. Give the girl a chance to step on campus at least. Whew.

[Edit: I misread your post as referring to a player "arguably the NFOY" -- which I would read as referring to Washington. On reread, that's not what you meant. I still wouldn't say that Frantti had a really poor season, but that's an "in the eye of the beholder" judgement.] Sorry, I know you're down on Haleigh Washington, and certainly she didn't excel in all areas last season (failing to close the block is one that's been mentioned many times) but to say she had "a really poor sophomore year" is silly, at best.

Frantti was the NFOY. I know that, but misinterpreted what he said as "arguably the NFOY" -- the player that fits the use of that word is Washington, who "arguably" would have been NFOY if she had qualified for the award by playing in enough sets. Even referring to Frantti I wouldn't say she had a "really poor year," but to each his own.
