For the "points" experts, what needs to happen for Gibb/Patterson to be overtaken by both Bourne/Hyden and Dalhausser/Lucena?

For the sake of discussion, let's say Gibb Patterson and Hyden/Bourne both take a 9th at a Grand Slam (which would get each to the required 12 events).
Gibb/Patterson would be 560 points ahead of Hyden/Bourne.
Again, for the sake of discussion, let's say Gibb/Patterson don't play a single other event or improve on their points.
There are three grand slams remaining in the qualifying.
In order to make up 560 points. At a bare minimum, Hyden/Bourne would have to have something like two 5ths and 9th in those slams or a combination of three podiums at opens plus at least one 5th at one of the grand slams. In other words, they are going to have to play well and Gibb/Patterson are going to have to collapse.
Of course, if Hyden/Bourne were to podium at one or two of the slams, that could change things in a hurry. But I think the odds are that isn't going to happen.
I think barring injury Lucena and Dalhausser will pass them. They are only 1020 points back with 4 less events played. They could take 9ths at 4 opens and they would only be 60 points back at that point.

Thank you Klazk. When do you think BVBinfo.com will have the points tracker on the website showing the breakdown after each tournament for the Olympic qualifications?
Anyone have any updated info as to how Kerri's shoulder is doing? Will she be back at 90% or better?
I love the added drama and attention the Olympics bring to our great sport. Still wish it translated into more permanent fans.

Looking ahead at Rio, gone are the days past where long-time partners (and past medalists) were shoe-ins to qualify and land on the podium. This year, it's a whole different ball game!

I still think the qualifying process sucks balls…when there is a chance the best players/team won't be representing the US it just seems silly, and the fact that an outstanding body dictates to the IOC how a country selects its participants is a joke.

Line them up in Manhattan or Hermosa & let the Americans battle it out head to head for 4-6 Norceca like events and send the top two pairs even if that means sending younger teams that can take it to the establishment .

What top team doesnt have a chance? IF, again IF, I understand correctly (and I'm not always the sharpest) as qualifying sits right now Nick and Phil are out. Now, I realize that chances are they will qualify, but they still have a lot of work to do, and I would arguably state that they would be the top team the US could send. Now, I understand there could be an injury, a team could suddenly slump, someone could contract the Zika virus, but I think it would be extremely sad if they fall just a few points short of qualifying and are playing at the top of their game. With all that said, I also understand there needs to be a qualifying platform, I just think it should be in country and not based on points from international tournaments….does Usain Bolt get a hall pass in to the Olympics because of his results in international events or does he have to participate in the Jamaican National Olympic Qualifiers? Man, I sound all volley and olympic with this post

I think if qualifying was today Kerri and April would be out too. No worries a mess of tournaments left to qualify and if the "top teams" are truly the top they should have no trouble qualifying.

How do we like US's chances, specifically on the men's side?
I would really love to see a Brazilian domestic tournament and see how lively and competitive it is, especially in comparison with AVP glory days. From a pure volleyball standpoint, I would imagine it thrives. They seem to have a hella lot of good teams that are world class level, I would love to see some of their young up and comers who are simply out of the fold do to country quota.
