We are only a few months away. Who do you think will make make it for the men and women? How many medals do you think USA will walk away with? Who will win the gold for the men and the women?

I'm guessing the USA won't medal. That certainly isn't what I want but that is the most likely outcome. I'll take Brazil to take both gold medals.

I think the US will take home some type of medal. Remember, the Olympic tournament is easier than a typical FIVB grand slam (only two Brazilian teams, two U.S. teams, two German teams). I'd expect a healthy Walsh and April to medal and feel like Phil has a decent shot. The second men's team will have a chance to sneak in as well, but the second women's team won't sniff the podium.

... I'd expect a healthy Walsh and April to medal ... It's the "healthy" part I worry about.

I hope KW can come back above 80%. If not she is doing an injustice to April who could pick another partner and perhaps reach the podium.

I can't see any odds that say the US is most likely to not bring home any medal on either side. Whatever % healthy that Kerri is, she is most likely going for broke to make a run for the gold. I've got faith our men will medal as well, although gold may be a stretch right now.

So the collective summary is April & Kerri will "medal"? Uh, it may be a bit late in the millennium to ask "what are you smoking", but with 3 Gold Medals, if Kerri's shoulder is OK, YES, a reasonably large "if", but, again, IF, I would expect them to do "rather better" than in Long Beach where they finished 2nd with Kerri SERVING UNDERHAND and virtually disabled! Geezzzzz . . .

If Kerri can play right handed they medal. Only a crummy draw will prevent it. Nick and Phil are also a solid bet to medal. Not Phil/Todd 2008 but more likely than not. Casey/Jake also have a solid chance, say 30% or so.
Remember the Olympics are not more competitive than a top FIVB, they are less. At least two of the current top 20 teams on both sides will be missing due to the two per country restriction. On the women's side one of those teams will be top 5.
With Kerri playing lefty, April and Kerri beat the current 3rd and 4th ranked teams.
If Kerri is reasonably healthy they are the gold medal favorite. Not 100%, but playing right handed and able to swing.

I say a 6'+ US team, BOTH players being over 6', also forgetting that April is the #1 server on the tour and Kerri, well, her resume speaks for itself, will easily run past any contenders Brazil or otherwise put forth...Now that assumes Kerri's shoulder intact and of course they meet the requirements of # of tourneys...BUT, we haven't seen this team at full speed hardly, so they SHOULD be in August...My only disclaimer would be the inevitable "on any given Sunday", but EVEN THAT caveat might not apply here: 4th GOLD!

I think people are really underestimating Brazil if they think Kerri and April are a sure win for Gold. Beating Brazil at Brazil is not going to be a cakewalk. Those fans will be going crazy for the home team there.

OK, I am a bit confused by everyone seemingly taking it as a given that the Olympics are an easier draw than a typical FIVB tournament. Less teams, sure, but only the top two teams from Germany, Brazil, Latvia, Canada, Netherlands, etc. coupled with the added pressure of the Olympics - how in the world can that be considered either easier or some type of a watered down field? Just asking!

Just asking! Because the third and fourth teams from Brazil and the 3rd teams from the US and Germany are in most regular tournaments and are better than teams that will go to the Olympics. Average grand slam has 20 of the 20 best teams. Taking out the four teams mentioned above means the Olympics will have 16 of 20

Walsh-Jennings is back training. I saw her this morning on the beach doing some passing drills as well as shots and "light" hitting.
