Aside from Candelas and Adams having such awful nights, the most startling stat is that Cal outblocked USC 13.5 to 4. I have to believe USC's passing was just terrible tonight and that they were out of system all night long.

[/quote] Cal's QB, Rodgers, can flatout play (certainly outplayed Leinart today). Call led in every offensive stat. Both Cal teams deserved to win today. But only the vball team gets one (rather convincingly too). We knew Cal's play has been inconsistent so far this season. But more and more it seems like USC's is a bigger question mark than I realized. Great football game today. Kinda wish the vball game was televised too...

USC's schedule and weekly release said that it was supposed to be televised on tape delay on Fox College Sports Pacific. Can anyone who was there verify if there were broadcast cameras set up in the Lyon Center? I've been scouring the FCSP schedule, and all they seem to have are a boatload of Stanford at USC rebroadcasts, Washington State at Washington, and Washington State at Arizona (next week I guess). usctrojans.collegesports.com/sports/w-volley/sched/usc-w-volley-sched.html

The Trojans must have prepared to much for Stanford and not enough on Cal....lol I think that may ring true for the SC team. Against the Stanford team on friday, they were focused and well prepared. Somehow, I got the feeling that they expected an easy win against Cal (without Mia Jerkov) and underestimated them. I think this goes for both the players and the coaching team. Haley made a big blunder even before th match started. He listed Robinson as a starter whereas Florian was the one due on the floor. Right off the bat, he had to make a substitution to bring in Florian and take out Robinson. I don't think USC's passing was bad. It was okay, but the hitting were definitely not there. the MBs started the tone with a few easy errors in early game 1, and for the rest of the night, they were struggling to put the balls down. Even Candelas could not kill the ball when she swung from the outside. The problem was that they allowed Cal to establish early leads and could not establish any momentum later on for point runs. The team simply did not show up tonight, and neither the coaches nor the players could adjust their game to counter Cal. Cal came out playing with a purpose. Their blocks were solid, putting up double blocks on almost every USC attacks at the antenna. While USC team looked and played tall and sluggish, the Cal team played with athleticism and quickness. One thing that is clear is that the USC team needs to bolster its mental toughness, and be able to sustain high level of play and competitiveness night in and night out. They showed that they could not do that during the Washington weekend as well as this weekend. Also it does not help that Keao was not jump serving this weekend. I don't know why that is but the team needs an aggressive jump server to take the other team out of its offensive system (like it relied on Ross's serves to create havoc for the opposing team).

Wow, great win for Cal.
I watched the USC-Stanford game on tv and I was thinking, the Trojans are very good, lots of great players, that a 3-peat is possible.
I have watched Cal in Hawaii and I was surprized that they swept a very formidable SC team. Weird.

By the way... I did say that Cal would give USC trouble... this past Friday, to be more specific. Look at me! Look at me! I only bring it up because I was ridiculed.
