Last year we went to see USC, LMU, and USF play at USC. Matches started at 2:30 PM. Last match ended at 8:00 PM. Long, long day.......now you have 8 teams, plus pairs competition on those three courts? Ugh...

Last year they did double elimination for both team and pairs. I think SC still only has 3 courts so that may be why it is so spread out this year. Give that man a cigar. The Pac 12 very much wants to keep the pairs competition going (and in doing so making a very deliberate point to the NCAA beach VB committee about the value of a pairs championship), so team championship + pairs championship + three courts = four days of competition. Could you explain all this to me? How many courts (minimum) do you need to hold a competition? What is the optimal # for a tournament? What is the format? Doubles and 6 person or some other combo? Never been to one of these things. thankyou.

The point is that Nebraska Beach schedule does not meet the NCAA varsity minimum scheduling requirements, so they are considered a "club" team. Would be like ranking Vanderbilt's indoor volleyball club team in the SEC/NCAA or ranking an NAIA team in DIG. Washington may have the same scheduling issue, unless their schedule is incomplete at this time. Several teams had non-compliant schedules in the past while Beach was an emerging sport, and nobody really cared. Now that it is a championship sport teams have to actually follow the NCAA rules. Isn't the minimum '8 duals'; counted by occurring on 8 separate dates?

Isn't the minimum '8 duals'; counted by occurring on 8 separate dates? Basically, yes. 8 dates - 3 must be duals, other 5 can be duals or tournaments. Against 4 year institution varsity teams. For a tournament to qualify as a contest, it must culminate in the determination of a winner based on the performance of each institution’s five, two-person teams. So, Nebraska's schedule might actually meet the NCAA minimum, if nothing gets cancelled. MoBap match will count toward minimum although it is not a varsity team, since there is still an exception to count playing 1 club team per year. I thought this exception was going away as Beach left emerging sport status, but I guess not. Hawaii pairs tournament might also count, depending on format/scoring..

They should run it at Annenberg in Santa Monica again but it's probably easier for the PAC-12 networks to broadcast from USC.

It is easy to put a couple of cameras on top of the four story parking structure at USC that is behind the courts. May be a problem if they want a slde view. A lot more cost to televise from Annenberg. I doubt that the PAC 12 wants the added expense.including set-up and additional labor.

USC has a number of their matches broadcast through the PAC 12 Network and they also may stream some additional matches. UCLA has also broadcast from their courts with the PAC 12. The problem with that is only Time Warner carries the PAC 12 Network, similar to the Dodgers and Lakers (which very few watch cause the Lakers stink....). Also, I think Hawaii is streaming from their campus courts, not Queen's Beach in Waikiki.

PAC-12 is also on Dish and a couple of other carriers. I believe PAC-12 will be streaming from Stanford and Arizona at least once this year, on top of UCLA and USC.
I'm not sure if CBS Sports Network still has rights for the championship now that it's NCAA official.

CBS sports is covering the championship.
The basketball money from the CBS contract basically funds most other NCAA championships.
So as the party line goes, it was a limited budget allocation from the CBS funds that had the beach volleyball championship steering committee gutting the sport of a pairs championship..
