You just don't see a well timed and completely appropriate "yo momma" very often anymore! I am brought back to the urban playgrounds of my youth...nicely played!

sandpit, Are Cdn schools (other than SFU) giving "full-ride" athletic scholarships now? They weren't 5 years ago.
Sort of. IIRC the maximum scholarship amount is roughly equivalent to tuition and fees, but doesn't cover books or living expenses. Thanks sandpit.

BUT, with 105 year round players, variability does not kill you as much as only having 15.... So, volleyball coaches, in theory, should need to "punt" a higher percentage of players... For the program referenced, not counting the most recent class, 64% of NLI signees (14 out of 22) transferred out since 2007. That is a much "higher percentage" than is to be found even among the worst offenders in football. In his entire time at UW dating back to 2002, McLaughlin had only one NLI-signee transfer out, and that was to play sand, not indoor, volleyball. One is a good mentor and developer of people which is likely why ND invested in him, the other does not have that skill set (and likely sucks as a coach). My point was more that with so few scholarships, one would expect to see VB coaches need to punt more players so it may just be optics.

What volleyball program has had 64% of its players transfer out?? That is CRAZY.... Nebraska Can't be Nebraska! I can only count 7 "scholarship" players leaving from 2007 - 2015 (9 years). 2007 - 0 2008 - 0 2009 - 1 (more playing time) 2010 - 0 2011 - 1 (injury) 2012 - 2 (beach) 2013 - 0 2014 - 0 2015 - 3 (more playing time)

Rich Kern listed transfers (I have no clue who was on scholarship). 2015 - Ethridge, Haggerty, Keil, Larson 2014 - Lyles, Zarda 2013 - Dykstra, Strange 2012 - Simpson 2011 - James, Pendergast 2010 - Yanz 2009 - Haverly 2008 2007 - Bartek Looks like that is where redbeard got the 14 number.

Look at the names and note the reasons they left. Seems causation is killing the correlation in this argument. Injuries and desire for more playing time covers most of them as publicly documented. So strange that team chemistry is tight, the program is coming off a national title, and recruiting is as strong as ever if the head coach was pushing players out. Dem grapes seem sour...

2014: Alexa Ethridge (to Missouri) 2014: Kira Larsen MB (to Missouri) 2014: Maddie Haggerty (to Central Florida) 2014: Melanie Keil (to FSU) 2013: Brenna Lyles (to Texas State, family illness) 2013: Sheridan Zarda (to Kansas State) 2012: Lara Dykstra (to Pepperdine/Sand) 2012: Lauren Sieckmann (enrolled early, then transferred to Wayne State DII for fall season, without ever playing for Neb., Pepperdine/Sand, USC/Sand) 2011: Taylor Simpson FSU/Missouri/Colorado) 2011: Shelby Winkelmann (to Central Missouri, for basketball) 2010: Megan Pendergast (to Texas A&M) 2010: Kristen Kelsay ("decommitted" after signing an NLI, to MSU) 2009: Kaitlynn James (to Louisville) 2007: Jordan Haverly (to Indiana)
These were all officially announced by Nebraska following the national signing day. Note that two never even made it to fall practice.
Between 2004 and 2007 there was one transfer out - 2004: Kelsey Fautsch (to Tennessee).
I'm not claiming that these were all forced or unwilling transfers, as I've been accused. I have no idea why any of them transferred. 14 (15 if including Fautsch) is a very high number, however. It is difficult for me to believe that all were willing.

Almost a third of this list was 'non-Athletic Scholarship' players.

Are you implying this was never talked about before Nebraska won their title? There are 250+ teams with 12 scholarships. All of them have about the same number of people that get playing time. Every team has injuries. In the major conferences, Nebraska is one of the few that have this many transfers leave. I haven't even heard a THEORY as to why this number is exceptionally large in Lincoln. What makes Nebraska different for non-starters that they all want to get out?

Q: What makes Nebraska different for non-starters that they all want to get out? A: $$$ and wanting to be a "starter"; for non-scholarship players who could easily be a starter, and be on scholarship at another Div.1 school; and for scholarship players who can be a starter and fulfill their ambitions. But I think this is the same at all 'Top' Schools, though not all schools have the same amount of quality depth that NE has. *I think for a transferring volleyball player coming from UNL serves as a good resume enhancer; as schools have historically benefited from acquiring former UNL players.

To imply that everyone on your list signed an 'Actual' NLI; thus receiving an Athletic Scholarship is wrong. Almost a third of this list was 'non-Athletic Scholarship' players. Do you care to identify which ones? As long as they are "prospective student athletes", coaches can't say anything about them. All I know is they were announced by Cook in November, following National Letter of Intent Signing Day. Two on Kern's list aren't on mine (Yanz and Bartek).

Does a non scholarship player hoping to transfer also have to get a release to check the market and see if there are scholarships available?
