Jem (Jen and Emily)just lost a tough one in three sets to Brazil. Not bad against the #1 ranked team. Jem are the only women's team left for the USA. Not a great start but hopefully it will get better. Only the first tourney.

Brutal start of the season for Fendrick/Sweat. Dead last in a so-so pool, winning one game in three total matches. Really?? if the the Chinese team is healthy, they aren't bad, same with the good young Brazilian team. I thought this was the deepest pool on the women's side, easily. Personally, I think Pool E and Pool G (Carico/Ross pool) are better top to bottom, and Fendrick/Sweat also avoided any of the really top teams in their pool. Chinese team is meh - Xia just isn't that good, and injuries have slowed Xue down considerably. The Brazilian is half-young, as Elize is in her thirties. Eduarda is certainly an up and comer though. And the Spaniards are solid, albeit coming off of a bit of a disappointing 2015 season. Not a group of pushovers by any means, but not the '27 Yankees either. Regardless, that's a really poor tournament for the as-we-speak highest ranked USA pair. Of course, it's only their first event after a long layoff.

Xia seems like she has been around for a long time, and her stunning debut was three years ago, but she is a couple years younger than Claes/Hughes. Maybe too soon to write her off as "not good" although you may have just meant right now. How bad are Xue's injuries? She hasnt played much the last two years so hopefully that time has allowed her to recover. Its interesting to me how differently age is perceived by US sports fans. For example you sometimes hear US soccer pundits talk about a young US team taking on a veteran national team of some other country when the other country's players are all younger than the US team. Xue has been a great player for at least ten years, and yet she is younger than Emily Day. Makes me wonder whether if coaches, fans etc. expected more of players like Summer, if maybe they would be stronger mentally.

Didnt he choose to try to qualify with a 45 year old? Id love to see Bourne and Trevor split blocking as a team.

If he needs/gets a sub for next week, I'd like to see him play with Taylor Crabb.

Unfortunately Day/Kessey and Rosie/Brunner revert to form and get sent packing.

Sounds like Mayor is focusing more and more on coaching. I think USA volleyball is enterig a period where podium finishes will be harder and harder to come by for a long long time, especially when Dalhausser is done.

Is there a live feed or on demand available? I believe the semifinals and finals will be streamed live on the fivb youtube page. May need to not be coming from a US IP address.... Semifinals: Finals:

Can someone remind me again how Adrian Skyball Carambula is competing for Italy?!?! Or how the best young American player is now playing for Italy? (Maybe an exaggeration, but only Bourne can claim anything like the success Adrian has had internationally)
