Oh yeah, what's it take for Pacific to get into the top 25 anyway? A win over Stanford tomorrow night may do it. Otherwise, they haven't defeated any top 25 ranked teams yet, other than UC Santa Barbara. But, a couple of other teams have beat UC Santa Barbara, and they aren't ranked, either. I don't think they're there, yet. Additionally, they lost a game to Cal Poly recently.

Oh yeah, what's it take for Pacific to get into the top 25 anyway? Tuesday when we beat Stanford? Honestly I didn't expect much rise in the polls this week, after all, we played Riverside/Fullerton. OTOH, I didn't expect a drop in votes. I guess the loss to Idaho keeps only Pacific out of the top 25...

Points gained/lost:
1) Washington +3 2) Minnesota +30 3) Hawaii +72 4) Nebraska +69 5) PSU -11 (but moved up one spot) 6) USC -221 (come and get it!) 7) CSU +62 8) OSU +17 9) Texas +167 10) Florida -23 (and falls 2 spots)
11) UCLA -136 12) Stanford +128 13) Cal +336 (!)
The old tried and true--when in doubt, move Pac10 teams up.
14) St Mary's +247 15) Santa Clara -254 (very harsh for a road loss) 16) KSU +5 (hmmmm) 17) Tennessee +102 18) Utah +140 19) UCSB -450 (not really all that kind) 20) TAMU -255 (also harsh for a road loss)
21) Louisville -16 22) Arizona -48 23) Illinois +17 24) FAMU +84 25) San Diego +73
Long Beach State -178

At this rate, Florida will be out of the top 25 in no time.

13) Cal +336 (!) The old tried and true--when in doubt, move Pac10 teams up. At 8-6 no less . . . and 6 Pac-10 Teams in the top 25. Really makes you wonder whether the coaches are looking at the results from this years matches or last years.

Well, now those 6 teams are in the top 22; a couple of weeks ago they were in the top 17! Interesting that Stanford is two places higher than Saint Mary's, which beat the Cardinal twice, and that Cal is two places higher than Santa Clara, which swept the Bears.

The old tried and true--when in doubt, move Pac10 teams up. 14) St Mary's +247 St. Mary's keeps gaining points, but can they catch Stanford? Maybe another old tried and true is at work here -- 3rd times the charm -- and SMC needs to beat Stanford one more time to make believers out of the voters. As long as wins against PAC-10 competition are overvalued (at least as far as this season goes), SMC may never get the respect it deserves.

Interesting that Stanford is two places higher than Saint Mary's, which beat the Cardinal twice, and that Cal is two places higher than Santa Clara, which swept the Bears. Of course you can't do it solely on the basis on single head to head matchups. This week I suppose what stood out for most voters was Cal sweeping #2 USC and Santa Clara losing badly to unranked San Diego. Santa Clara also only has one win (at home) over a ranked opponent, while Cal has 3 (neutral, at home, and on the road) and no losses to unranked opponents. There's really no accounting for matchup problems or when entire teams just light it up or totally tank on a given night.

I guess the loss to Idaho keeps only Pacific out of the top 25... I think UCSB's win against CAL is the only thing that keeps them in!

I think UCSB's win against CAL is the only thing that keeps them in! Don't forget UCSB swept Texas A&M.
