Does anyone know the structure of AI tournament? Will all the teams compete against each other that weekend? I know most but not all Invitationals have teams playing 3 duals total. A lot of good for Long beach and FIU could come out of this tournament if they beat Hawaii, USC, or each other.
The competing teams are: Hawaii USC Long Beach State FIU ULM GCU Washington

I thought it was just a pairs tournament

It is just for pairs. FIU is sending two teams. A little puzzling as their conference championship is also that weekend, not the following weekend.

Last year it was a team competition AND pairs. I believe that will be the same format...at least according to the website. No word yet, however, who will play who.

Was this the tournament last year that changed the scoring of the team competition so that all the final outcome was undecided prior to the last flight?

You are correct about it being team competition. I was wrong. From their latest press release: "The Rainbow Wahine will wrap their regular season in grand fashion at the Outrigger Aloha Invitational, on the neutral courts at Queen's Beach, Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. The fifth-ranked 'Bows will take on a top-flight field that includes top-ranked USC and Big West rival Long Beach State. Washington, Grand Canyon and Louisiana Monroe are also slated for competition. Dual match play with double elimination will start at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and wrap with nationally-televised (CBS) final that begins at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday." Sounds like they aren't doing pairs at all? And FIU is no longer listed in the field.

FIU never planned to send the entire team, only two pairs. Still trying to figure out why when it looks like the CCSA conference tournament the same weekend will be crucial in who the third team from the East will be. Also, the travel for those two pairs will be brutal from Miami as school is back in sesion on Monday.

Why is USC returning the islands? They've already played UH twice. Conceivably, UH and USC could meet again -- for a third time! Are there no other tournaments this weekend and USC wanted to fill their schedule?

That's a bummer .. all sites had shown the invitational starting on Fri 4/22 .. so I would think a lot of mainland families weren't going to get there til later on Thursday after play.

FIU just pulled their two teams out of Hawaii. They just found out that the CCSA conference tournament the same weekend would count towards going to Alabama.

I'm a fan of Lara Schreiber but boy, she and Nikki Taylor have had a tough season, even losing to Boise State's #2 flight.
