Casebeer must be really inconsistent or a headcase, or maybe a little both. Couple years ago he had an opportunity to thrust himself into that next wave of players coming up, and I see him play some really really good games but I also see him times from him where I'm like wtf are you doing?

Yep. Not the right guy for Rosie to close out his career with.

Looks like Casebeer/Rosie got destroyed in their CG against DOhert/Mayer. Hard team to figure out. Id say Doherty/Mayer are both good and Casebeer isn't explains it fairly well. Bloom off the rose a little. US women lookng good so far. One in and two stll alive! Well, neither of these guys are the alpha player to lead a team skill level wise right now.

Allen/Brunner vs.Burik/Lorenz 21 - 19 15 - 21 15 - 9
Lorenz/Burik got closer than I thought.
Larsen/Flint lose their play in math 0-2. Lane & Summer get in.

Possibly hasn't altered his style of training for his age? Would be curious on what other pro's think about him and when he started faltering? Just 3 years ago he was on arguably the most potent team in the world with Phil. I know that's mostly Phil but I can't believe he has fallen that mush.

When was the last time Rosie was actually good. Given that Phil has carried an average player to almost equivalent results I think we have to go all the way back to year 1 of that team to say Sean was really a top player (those two absolutely blew through some tournaments in a way Phil/Nick never did though)

I said it 4-5 years ago I'll say it again, Phil should of picked up John Hyden!

Hyden? That is crazy talk. Phil picked up the best bet with Lucena. He isn't a perfect partner type but he can give him the highest ceiling at Rio.

Those are the things I am telling myself right now to avoid posting that Claes/Hughes are already a top 10 team in the world. Looks like ten more years of US dominance!!!!!! (Sorry couldnt contain myself) This is one giant reason why current Olympic qualification sucks. Say Claes/Hughes get a 5th or so, after beating the Germans. Wouldnt everyone rather see them going into the Olympics as a dark horse medal contender rather than Brooke and Lauren?

Nick is definitely better than John right now but Phil could have picked up: Casey Mayer Hyden Lucena or stuck with Sean and he still would have at least two wins this year, and I think if he had chosen Casey maybe more than the 4 he has now. I'll always be a Stoklos loyalist but Phil's ability to win with almost anyone is pretty incredible. Very reminiscent of when Karch used to come back from Italy, pick up whoever didnt have a good partner and win anyway. Four best men's players of all time for me are: Stoklos Phil Karch Rego And the argument for Phil as best ever is getting harder and harder to refute.

Ludwig/Walkenhorst vs.Claes/Hughes 0 - 2 18 - 21 19 - 21 They may not have been trying hard the 1st set, but you'd expect the Germans to take it to 3. Decent pool though, all seeds still up for grabs. This does give the kids confidence they can beat anyone now.

Who'd ever think that a player could both out block AND out set Stoklos. IMO, any GOAT talk has to be separated by Eras, Pre-Rally and post for me (and also, pre penetrating block era to a lesser extent).

I agree on eras, and most of what you post, but please don't ever say anyone outset Stoklos again. Its my equivalent of drawing cartoons of the prophet. (Besides Stoklos had a much greater range and in his prime put hands on digs and passes Phil wouldn't even think about - for example I never see Phil jump set, jump back set, or take overpasses etc. with his hands.)
