Well, according to the AP this morning, the IOC has decided against a complete ban on Russians from Rio, but I couldn't find any additional information as to the extent of the ban, and whether it affected the volleyball teams: HOWEVER AS IRON HAMMER ELUDED the decision to ban further will be left up to the individual sport federation. As said T&F is done for Russia . I suspect that will be it and the rest of the teams are going to Rio.

Weak.
I wonder how much money changed hands. Or whether Putin threatened... Other things.

www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/36878983The little icing is that they are not allowing Stepanova to compete as a neutral athlete, that's a no brainier. That's Putin's reminder that he's boss. And the IOC pees down their collective legs.

Well my guess was correct after all. Seems like a politically convenient way for IOC to wash its hands of this whole affair. But sorry, the stain on IOC's credibility won't be so easy to wash off...for me at least.
Now what is FIVB's position on this? They better clarified ASAP about the Russian volleyball teams (men & women). I am pretty sure Russia will remain in the volleyball tournament as it stands, it would be a nightmare logistically for them to replace Russia (its technically doable-but why face the huge hassle of replacing Russia when they can keep the teams as scheduled). Besides, dope or not, I don't think it has helped the Russians in the last few Olympics anyway...they haven't gotten their gold around their necks for a while now (for the women). Still, as a matter of clarity, I think FIVB should be clear about the Russians and their status soon the better.
Now what happens if Russia do win volleyball gold at Rio? Would there be question marks over their win? Whether they legitimately won it?

I have read somewhere that as many as 10 Russian male volleyball players were part of this alleged doping scandal by WADA. And a few of the women as well.
You have to think then, is Russia going to lose the gold medal they have won in London?

So do we know if Goncharova and Kosheleva are going yet? Goncharova should be going unless she was listed as one of the athletes who tested positive for drugs. Kosheleva -I'm asking in regards to her back as well as potential for previous positive drug test...

Startseva and Sheshenina, who appeared to be battling for the last setter spot, both cut and replaced by Vera Vetrova (?!?!?).
Startseva is a very puzzling exclusion. She brings them much needed height and all-around game. She was also mysteriously absent at the Champions League Finals. I wonder if she is one of the volleyball players who had doping results covered up and Marichev is doing some pre-emptive cleaning out of the roster.

I can't believe she was excluded. Also, I'm surprised that Ilchenko isn't going. But Voronkova is. I don't even know who Voronkova is.

The last thing FIVB wants now is another doping scandal in volleyball and being accused of lax treatment for the Russians, so they are probably reminding the Russians privately to avoid any sort of doping scandal now.

Yes, I read an article that said volleyball is in. 271 Russian athletes (out of 389) are allowed. And there are still some appeals pending. A lighter punishment than I expected.
