I've defended Casey more than once on VT, but his behavior at the end of today's match showed a serious lack of character. He disrespected his opponents, he disrespected his partner (Jake played his ass off today, BTW), he disrespected the sport.
Casey, you're 36 years old. Start acting like it.

Horrible display, game three was a train wreck, no offense, Casey is a punk nothing more nothing less…try disappointing results

Never liked him. Cheered like crazy when Austria beat them. Feel bad for Jake. Lamented the fact that the guy is such a douche that I'm actually cheering against a US team.

He waited to shake hand, but the opponent was acting like they just won gold....don't blame him for not waiting any longer.

I don't think they celebrated any longer than other winners in pool play. He just packed and bailed without even talking to his partner. Probably not a huge deal, and I'm sure Jake's OK with all that. But the man is just plain unlikeable.

I don't keep up with beach vb or men's vb in general. So having never seen this guy before this week, I observed that he does give off a douchy vibe right away.

Probably not a huge deal, and I'm sure Jake's OK with all that. But the man is just plain unlikeable. They definitely celebrated to a ridiculous degree. Especially considering they won by 8 so they knew they were going to win for a while. That doesnt excuse Casey's lack of class, and whats worse for an athlete is that he absolutely lost his composure and they both lost their focus. Their complaint was essentially that they didn't get the benefit of a referee's mistake, and they let that destroy them. The Spaniards played awfully and the match was there to be taken, but Casey/Jake just stunk. The dirty little secret about Casey Patterson is he simply isnt that good. He gets attention because of his schtick (manufactured as it is) but he isnt one of the top 20 players in the world and this year, and this event, has reflected that.

Definitely not the first time Casey has stormed off the court, and it won't be the last. Gibb's story in the Players Tribute is pretty unintentionally funny when he's describing how he to this day doesn't have a clue where Patterson goes when he storms off the court.

I think Patterson is a very good player, but because of his type of game and the way he plays defense (or doesn't) doesn't give him much of a window if he's not controlling the ball passing. He has a great sideout and scoring in transition game that is neutralized by his inability to make all the plays necessary on defense, and when he isn't in system it catches up to him. If he's not passing or not on top of his game hitting he can't find other ways to win.
Gibb made a great point about how that one play didn't cost them the match in any way. IMO he really got beat up the last couple matches. Sad to see him being the one that played terribly today and SPain went right after him.

I really was hoping this team would do well. Wanted Jake to have a nice Olympics. Feel bad for him.

I gotta say I'm not all that surprised. I did expect them to advance but I didn't expect them to get very far. Both Gibb and Patterson haven't played all that well in the last couple of months. Their win at the Manhattan Beach Open came very lucky imo. About Casey: Initially I liked him because he mad volleyball exciting to watch but all that trash talking and excessive celebrating just to annoy his opponents kinda gets old after a while. And a couple of weeks ago I even saw him move the line with his foot and try to make the ref go and get a look at the ball mark. I don't think I had ever seen anyone do that before.
As a player he certainly has his qualities however for a guy his size he hits the ball into the net or on top of the net way too often imo.

I'd like to see Casey get back with Doherty. Ryans block could potentially force more shots, and give Casey's long arms and legs a chance to run stuff down with only a step or two.
That team to me would be high risk/high reward.

I didn't realize Casey's defense was below average for a non-blocker.
