Getting this thread back on track here. A loss to Japan would be a huge upset. I think we are safe. Our reward for winning the toughest pool is probably the easiest opponent left in the field, but we should take nothing for granted.
I expect the girls to be focused. All teams have seen each other play so game plans have been set. I hope sweep no more messing around out here.

This match seems to be a good opportunity to get our OPP's going and give them some confidence and momentum.

Having either Serbia or Russia on this bracket makes me feel skeptical, should the US handle Japan in the quarterfinals.

This match seems to be a good opportunity to get our OPP's going and give them some confidence and momentum. Well, I believe its rather late in the day for them to develop confidence...if they lack it. You don't develop confidence in the Olympics. You display it. Sure, there is always room to improve from one match to the next. But we are talking about relatively minor technical adjustments. Its not very realistic to have a sudden quantum leap in performance at this stage. That is not unheard of, but quite rare in practice.

Agreed!! I'm getting flashbacks of 2011 World Cup when we got swept by Japan! They eliminated china in London quarters too. USA will be fine tho! If they keep playing their game. Calm down. This ain't 2011. Team USA has made improvements both to their technical and mental game. There won't be a repeat of US choking against Japan. I am sure of it.

No. Its not a jinx. Its an objective evaluation of US's strength and ability. Ha. Its confidence in them. Now if the US is facing Serbia, Russia or Brazil, I won't be so nearly as confident. And if we do make it to facing Brazil (fingers crossed) I will say the US are the under-dogs.

I wonder what the line-up will be. Does Hill start in an effort to help her find her mojo? Same for Adams? Is it a forgone conclusion that the double-sub is not super effective so far?

I remember at the World Championships, the double sub was pretty ineffective for the first couple of rounds. It didn't gain any steam until the final round, and it really was effective in the semifinal and final. So there's still time for it to work
