Both the men's and women's indoor teams have now made the semifinals despite some underwhelming play at the opposite position, but which team should be more concerned?
Both Murphy and Lowe have struggled during many matches, getting blocked often and having a hard time getting kills on any out of system sets. Anderson has looked great in some matches (including today for the most part), and lackadaisical in others. I will say that he has performed much better than Lowe or Murphy, but I also think that the men may need to rely on him much more in the coming rounds than the women will need to with Kelly Or Karsta.
What do you guys think?

Definitely the women. Hardly even a discussion. Not to take anything away from any of the women, but Andersons bad is not Murphys or Lowes bad. He's on a different level that neither of the other two are on yet

Anderson vs. Zaytsev, should be interesting. I am certain they are both aware of the other, and the importance for one of them to play better.

Is Karsta Lowe struggling? I watched her play this summer and she was the the best player on the court every time, by far the most dominant offensively. Just inexperience?

Men's opposite a problem? Matt Anderson gets paid over $1M/year for a reason. He's one of the best players in the world.

Matt Anderson has been inconsistent at opposite. Sometimes looks great, other times bad. The match against Mexico he played especially poorly. His serve is also has been up and down. I agree he has not been a great out of system hitter. I prefer to see him back in the wing spiker position like he does at Zenit Kazan.

Would rather just have opinions of people who actually are watching the women's indoor. You need to pay attention then.. I've started half the threads on this board this olympics and probably seen every match team USA has played this year. My perspective on which opposite is better, more consistent and ready to play at this level is in line with the coaching staff.

On the men's side, a good opposite performance is nothing but straight up athleticism. The way our women are running their offense, the setting plays a very important role in their effectiveness. Glass has really struggled to get good quality sets to the opposite. There is no doubt that the opposite issue is bigger on the women's side, but it has more to do with setting than murphy or Lowe's performance.

I haven't bothered reading any of the threads considering the women's team because I probably pay attention to them the least of all the volleyball/beach volleyball teams. I came in to see the men's problem with their opposite in Anderson and saw something about the Lowe player. I just thought I'd ask about it considering this is a thread titled specifically to that but maybe that's just too much to ask for.
