But don't you understand that the Olympic roster is only 12? Not 14 or 16+. There just simply is no space for a cheerleader. I wouldn't mind if the availability is bigger, but for whatever reason the Olympics made the # smaller than normal. Larson or Dietzen is capable of feeding this positive energy when needed. Who would you have taken it makes sense to me, she is also a setter so two back up setters seems fine? I don't think we had anyone who would have drastically changed the look of any game. It still bothers me that Molly Kreklow was sent packing in order to keep Thompson on the Team. An efficient setting sub would of been nice 'here and there'. * I like the "system" - it makes great sense to me as long as you are able to run it efficiently.

Can someone tally up how many times Adams has served out this tournament against the points she's scored in all phases of the game? Adams scored 84 points in the Olympics, 60 kills, 18 blocks, 6 aces She served 90 times, had 26 serving errors (.711) However, Adams did hit 60/11/97 for a kill% of 0.619 and hitting % of 0.505

One of the main reasons he took 3 setters is that there wasn't really another player who could have helped them. Yes, he could have taken 3 opposites, but that's overkill, imo. A 4th middle? Might have been nice if they had someone who could really help. So that leaves you with another OH. I just don't know who that would have been. They didn't lose the gold because of the 12th player on the roster. They lost it because they were outplayed at the end of g5 against Serbia. It happens. There are two teams on the court and the rest of the world is GOOD. Not having Foluke sure didn't help. Take the top offensive weapon (and blocker) off any other top team and tell me they win gold. They don't. Not easily anyhow. What a bunch of baloney. You think 3 setters is fine but 3 OPPs is overkill??? Surely, there were players that could've helped the team but you don't want to admit it. And no, they didn't lose for being outplayed. Serbia is good but not THAT good. USA lost because they choked. Because they are a bunch of newbies who got scared of the pressure. The finish line was right there. Foluke is a MB. She's not supposed to be the top scorer and attacker. The team shouldn't crumble because she's injured. Did Italy men go down in flames when Birarelli got hurt? They just did, against Brasil.

Nah, Italy mvb never had their mojo against Brasil. They did not meltdown so much as vaguely saunter lower.

Italy would have won if they could pass like Brasil Brasil also had the better setter!! We should have kept Kreklow and sent Llyod packing... I still like Murphy, she needs to read the block better though

Piggybacking on the 3 setters/3 opps discussion - can't forget that, despite hitting terribly, Fawcett was maybe our best server in the lead-up to the games (and significantly outperforming the serving sub that was selected). When Akinradewo went down and we needed a serving sub for Dietzen, she would have been quite useful there.

Did no one watch the medal ceremony? Banwarth was shaking her head while looking at the bronze medals on the tray...
And those Rio logo "souvenirs" were so cheap-looking. The puzzled reaction by the players was hilarious. "Do we put our medal on this plastic thing?"
Stick to stuffed animals, Olympic hosts...

I'd have been fine with Kreklow instead of Lloyd.

I wrote an article on how Americans are never satisfied unless they win. Even the commercial for Samsung Galaxy takes a satirical slant at this obsession. This board is a prime example of that need to win or its a failure. I watched the match on replay today for the first time. The earned the bronze with little fanfare and isn't that a shame. Even the people who are supposed to love the game the most, we Volley-talkers, didn't do a good job of caring unless we could be number 1. Kind of pathetic.
