So, we've discussed who you would pick for 2020 at Tokyo, now who would you NOT pick for 2020?

Babe Ruth. 'Cause, you know, he's dead.
Seriously? It's 2016. A lot can happen in four years.

Or are you suggesting we should wait until the month before Tokyo Olympic starts? Its NEVER too early to start planning. Roster choices will surely change. But its always a good idea to start thinking early. So may I kindly suggest you shove your sarcasm up where it belongs.

Based on the way this team has been presented I think it's unlikely Karch will be having any Tom/Hooker-esque conversations with anyone from the 2016 roster. We know publicly Thompson and Dietzen are done. Just speaking solely from that roster, if I were Karch I wouldn't be planning on taking Glass to Tokyo. I'd say keep Larson and Akinradewo in the USA gym literally as long as they want to be there. I'd keep working on developing the remainder of the roster and I'd start keeping Easy, Fawcette, Dixon, Vansant, and Hancock closer to the inner circle again. I'd also bring Hooker back into the gym. And keep close tabs on Alhassan, Carlini, Washington, Hodson, Formico, and Wong-Orantes. I love Nicole Fawcette, but it's obvious that she doesn't fit into Karch's system. Even if she was allowed to practice with the National team again, she'd be wasting her time. Also, Karch is anti jump-serve, so it would be interesting to see if he made an exception for Hancock.

I think he's already made an exception for Hancock. He wouldn't have sent her to the Pan Am Cup and allowed her to jump serve there if he didn't see some potential for her and her jump serve in the USWNT.

Fawcett. Fawcette makes me wonder if you all mean Faucette.
I don't know why Adams is left off this discussion. If she was good enough for 2016, she stands to be better in 2020.
But, all in all, I have to agree with mike. It's too early to know or, really, to even make an educated guess. Age, health, development -- all too hard to predict for this level of play.
Ouch.

Ryan Lochte, however, I'm not picking.

I wouldn't pick Carli Lloyd at this point. My belief is that Glass (if she stays),Kreklow, Carlini, and others will pass her up.
Of course, Lloyd could continue to be healthy, become a star in Italy, and be the #1 setter. A lot can happen in 4 years.

USA Olympic team selection is so complex. You've got players who self-select themselves OUT of the running and others who will be selected simply because they've been with USA Volleyball for such a long time regardless of their abilities.
I'm always baffled why certain players never quite made that connection with USA Volleyball. If you look at the past 16 years at the setting position, Robyn Ah Mow, Lindsey Berg, and Alisha Glass, among others are great setters but there have been many many great setters over those 16 years out of the collegiate game but none stuck.
Also, I always thought Emily Hartong would be a good fit with USA Volleyball but it never happened. Self-select perhaps?

That is what precisely make a guess now so interesting. Come 4 years down the road, we''ll see how many of your predictions turn out correct...or not. Who will make it and who will not? Which new mystery college player will make it to the WNT? Kim Hill was relatively unknown before exploding onto the scene by landing a spot on the WNT through the open tryout (well, ok, maybe she wasn't that mysterious if you follow college volleyball, she was pretty impressive at Pepperdine after all, but to make that jump to the WNT was still a huge leap). So...there is no ouch. Only predictions.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not a worthwhile topic. Just that I personally have no idea who will develop into an NT caliber player.
